[56] Back to the present

Bright light blinded Lin Xiao's eyes. A numbing pain covered his whole body. It felt like he was being torn apart and his nerves were being electrocuted. However, despite his pain, he felt relieved. 

Unclear voices sounded far away amidst the defeating silence. His consciousness is gradually returning. When he opened his eyes, the blurry figure of the man of his life appeared. Chang'e didn't wait for Lin Xiao to get his senses back as he immediately hugged his wife. 

"Welcome back, my beloved." Chang'e said, his voice shaking. 

Lin Xiao had never seen the man cry. The man's joyful tears affected him. His own eyes blurred again as they filled with tears. 

Long Huo smiled softly at the two husbands' reunion. He hid his hands behind him and crushed the delicate ring. Lin Xiao is already happy with Chang'e and there's no need for him. 

"Huo, thank you." Lin Xiao beckoned the man closer and enveloped him with a hug. The two didn't notice Chang'e looking at the 'dust' where Long Huo was standing. 

The door slammed open and a small figure flew towards Lin Xiao, catapulting into the man's arms. The little child wailed hard and didn't care about the snot falling from his nose. 

"Mama! Mama! Waaaah!" Lin Xiao's dried tears started to fall down again. He cried alongside his son. The two men watched the heartfelt scene before looking at each other. 

Chang'e nodded without saying a word. He patted his wife and said, "Honey, don't go outside and stay with Little Xing. We still have something to do."

Lin Xiao agreed. Even if he wanted to go, he can't bring their child anywhere close to danger, and his current state is too weak to even move.

Little Xing wiped his tears and obediently laid down beside his mama. His little hands were placed on his mama's stomach as he poured his newly found power to help heal his beloved mama. 

After Lin Xiao was taken away by Shaiming's portal together with Uncle Long Huo, Little Qian Xing broke down into a high fever due to severe stress. Due to this, his powers awakened early and his body could not handle them.

The strange uncle who took away his mama picked him up and gave him to Mr. Shen before disappearing. When he recovered, he found out that his dad was also awake. Chang'e sealed Little Xing's excess energy and taught him how to use it. His powers are the same as his papa's.

Outside, all the heroes are fighting the seemingly endless wave of monsters coming out of the portals. The issue is not that the monsters are too powerful, but that there are far too many to handle, and the heroes are becoming exhausted.

"Hey guys, you are late to the party." Huo Yi grinned at the newly arrived Chang'e and Long Huo. His cheerful attitude didn't match his trembling arms, obviously getting tired from fighting. 

Chang'e rolled his eyes and started to accumulate his energy. Hou Yi couldn't use his healing power since it was night, but that made Chang'e more powerful now. With his mass healing, most of the heroes were rejuvenated. The monster wave is becoming smaller and manageable. 

Just as they came closer to the biggest portal, bright light started to spill from the inside and blinded everyone, including the monsters. When the light dimmed down, it revealed Shijian in his original form.

His long hair flowed gracefully just like his clothes, but there was nothing graceful about his ferocious eyes that were glowering specifically at Chang'e.

Mr. Shen noticed this and quickly shouted a command, "Protect Chang'e!"

Shijian swiftly moved to attack Chang'e, but the heroes hindered his actions. He can stop time and massacre everyone, but that will take away most of his energy. He can only resort to normal attacks.

Because of Chang'e, the heroes were able to recover almost immediately, which frustrated Shijian. He snapped his fingers and multiple big portals appeared. It took a large amount of energy, but not as much as time manipulation. 

Chang'e knew that if this didn't end tonight, he would start to weaken as the day came. Hou Yi can use his healing powers, but it's not his main power and not as efficient as his.

Shijian must be killed tonight. 

The two opposing sides were neck to neck in a stalemate.

Lin Xiao listened to the terrifying noises outside. Little Xing tugged on his clothes. 

"Mama, I want to help father."

Lin Xiao stared at his son. The child can tell that his mama is very anxious; he is anxious too. He is also powerful, like his father. He wants to help! 

Without warning, the child jumped off the hospital bed and ran away. Lin Xiao panicked and tried to run after his son. But his wobbly legs collapsed, causing him to fall down to the cold floor. However, this didn't stop him. He crawled fast and ultimately stood up with the help of the walls. 

His weak body is toiling him down, but his heart is beating fast in concern for both his husband and son. 

Shijian is getting impatient. He wanted to end this now. He manipulated the time of the heroes that tried to attack him, slowing their time and letting the monsters feast on them. He will not use all his energy on this. 

Before Chang'e and the other healers could heal the heroes, Shijian made the monsters take them to the portal, their fate sealed as equal to death. 

In the corner of his sight, a small, insignificant figure appeared. The child's face is the same as his obsession. Shijian sneered and flew quickly. The heroes immediately went to Chang'e, but Shijian did not go towards Chang'e. 

It was then that Chang'e saw his son outside. However, it was too late. 

Shijian already had the child; his hands were circled around the toddler's neck. 

"NO!" Chang'e and Lin Xiao simultaneously shouted.

Chang'e, Long Huo, Hou Yi, and everyone they knew flew towards Shijian to attack him.

Shijian laughed. His eyes were without light. He looked at the pitiful child in his hands. This pest is an eyesore that must be eliminated. 

Before the heroes came close, there was a heartbreaking sound.

Crack!

Little Xing's once bright eyes stared directly at his mama before he breathed his last breath.
