"I'm warning you now," Sunwoo stops me before we enter home base again. "I'm a very jealous person.""And?" I ask.
"And if I see Changmin looking at you how he usually does, I will throw a fit." He smiles.
"Changmin?" I ask. "he doesn't look at me in any way."
"Mm that's where you're wrong," Sunwoo says. "Trust me. I've been watching him watch you from the sidelines."
"Well you don't have to worry" I tell him. "He has a girlfriend."
"Best news I'd ever heard in my life," Sunwoo laughs as we walk in.
The fire is burning down slowly and it's getting darker on the inside of the cave. Eric is sleeping deeply against the back wall and Changmin is wide awake next to him.
"You want to switch?" I ask Changmin.
"No, no I'm awake you guys should sleep. I have big plans for us tomorrow." He says.
"Alright," Sunwoo rests his hand on my back and leads me to where Eric is sleeping. Changmin watches with a raised eyebrow before he takes his place at the entrance with his back facing us.
"Here." Sunwoo pats his lap after he takes his vest off and sits down.
"Hm?" I sit down next to him.
"Lay your head in my lap." He says.
I glance at Eric and Changmin.
"Oh come on, are we really going to be pretending we're not dating in front of them?" Sunwoo asks quietly.
"I...I just think that we're at a crucial part in the sim. We don't want to mess anything up and, I feel like if we tell them about it our team dynamic will be screwed up." I say.
"What team dynamic? There's only four of us left we're barely a full team!" Sunwoo points out.
"Shh, don't say that." I say, glancing at Eric to make sure he's asleep.
"I-I just want to be able to hold your hand when we're traveling the forest of certain death and ambushing other teams. Is that so much to ask?" Sunwoo says.
I let out a small laugh. "Once we're out of here and we won, you can do whatever you want to me."
"Anything?" He turns to me with a small smirk on his face.
"Screw off that's not what I meant." I shove his face away.
"Just promise me one thing?" Sunwoo asks.
"Mhm?"
"One kiss. Just one kiss a day," he says quietly. "Nobody will know, we'll do it when nobody's looking or when they're asleep."
I can't help the fact that keeping this a secret makes it more thrilling. "Deal."
"Okay good." Sunwoo says and we lean against the back wall together. "I really like you, Ren. I want you to know that honestly. I don't want you to think I'm using you or have some ulterior motive or something."
"Oh believe me I know." I smile at him in the dark. "You cant fake a kiss like that. You're forgetting that I'm smart."
"Hmm are you?" He asks and dodges while I make a swing at his head.
"I like you a lot too." I promise him.
"Good. I like that," Sunwoo says. "I think 'I like you' is better than 'I love you'. Just my opinion."
"That's so weird I feel the same way," I say.
"It's probably because I never really heard someone say 'I love you' to me so now it just feels unnatural," Sunwoo shrugs.
"Well don't worry I won't make you say it and you don't have to say it to me." I poke his ribs and he swats my hand away.
"That tickles don't do that."
"...I think 'I love you' is overrated." I close my eyes.
"I agree," Sunwoo says, and with that, we fall asleep next to each other. And even though it's just Changmin out doing night shift, I suddenly feel a lot safer
