"Changmin?" I ask, my stomach dropping. But the only players left in the game are me and... sunwoo.
I feel like I got the wind knocked out of me but I stand up anyway, clenching his collar in my hand.
I walk towards where the noises are going on. I see Sunwoo's wavy hair, he's faced away from me. A small podium popped up, probably when the last opponent was eliminated.
"Sunwoo?" I ask.
He freezes and lets out a soft sigh.
"What are you doing? And what happened to Changmin?" I ask.
"You could've tortured him a bit more." Sunwoo answers blankly.
"Who?"
"48."
"Why?"
"Because, I need more time." He says.
I take a step closer and I see that he took off a metal panel revealing a jumble of wires connecting to the large blue button you're supposed to press when you win. It finishes the game and brings you back to reality.
"Sunwoo, what the hell are you doing??" I run towards him and he shoves me back.
"I'm sorry, Soren." He says, looking guilty for pushing me. "But you need to stay away."
"Sunwoo." I say. "Tell me what you're doing."
There's a long moment of silence before he says, "I just need to finish this, then in five seconds we make a run for it to the loophole."
"Finish what? And what loophole??" I ask.
"I don't have time to explain," He says harshly. "You just have to trust me, this is the farthest I've ever gotten. Please, please trust me."
"I can't trust you if you don't tell me what the fuck you're doing!" I yell back.
Sunwoo sighs. "if I tell you, you have to promise not to stop me. I'm not trying to hurt anyone, especially not you."
"Okay...?" I say.
"...I've been in Maverick for 13 rounds," Sunwoo explains. "I've been trying to get to the end to this specific button so I can rewire it to destroy itself from the inside."
"...What??" I exclaim. "You're lying. First off, you can't participate more than once according to the rule book, and two, if you destroy it from the inside, everything will be pixilated for good. Meaning us!"
"I know, I know. Trust me, I know you've read the rules but so have I. I've studied this sim for ten years to come up with my own plan. And I found a loophole in these exact coordinates." Sunwoo takes a phone out of his pocket and shows me the notes app with numbers on it. "Every time I knew my team would fail, I'd disappear and step into the loophole until they started the next round."
