Phil was sitting on the couch, arms crossed. He was definitely waiting for Wilbur and Tommy to walk through the door. And both Wilbur and Tommy, their excitement from the previous excursion now severely diminished, knew they were in hot water.
Phil took a deep breath, and eyed the two boys. Both had plastered anxious smiles on their faces.
"Where have you two been? If something had happened to either of you two..." Phil's voice trailed off,, and he paused. "Will, explain." Wilbur had barely even opened his mouth before Tommy stated rambling.
"It was my fault. I was up all night watching videos, and didn't charge my phone. After school it was completely dead. Will said he sent out a message to me, but I never got it, you see, because my phone was dead. I went out looking for him around campus, and when that didn't work I went off campus." Tommy continued to spout more infomation, narrating his expedition through the city with excruciating detail. Wilbur and Phil stood there for a few minutes, unable to find a hole in the conversation to inturrupt."And then I saw this guy, with very cool pink hair! I asked him if he knew a guy with curly brown hair, glasses, and had a guitar, just like I asked all the other people. Only he actually knew who I was talking about! Techno said he had Will's number already, and I got to speak to Will, and-"
"Hold up. His name was Techno?" Phil's face flickered through many expressions, and his gaze settled on Wilbur. "How do you have his number?"After another long conversation, Phil's opinion of their neighbor significantly improved. They hadn't gotten off on the best foot, but Techno had only been here for barely a week after all. At some point during the conversation, Kristen had gotten off from work and joined in, resolving to bake cookies for Techno. She'd been in the kitchen baking up a storm, and Phil, Wilbur, and Tommy had readily been swept up as well, though certainly not without any resistance.
They'd mixed four kinds of dough, painstakingly measured out flour, milk, sugar, and used up more than a dozen eggs.
"I didn't know carrot cake cookies exsisted," Wilbur quipped, spooning out dough onto his third baking sheet.
"My own recipie," Kristen responded. "Phil, take that batch out of the oven, would you?" As Phil placed the fresh cookies on the counter, he made the mistake of leaving them unattended. Wilbur and Tommy both swiped one cookie each.Kristen rang the doorbell, and behind her the boys carried their baked goods. Techno answered, opening the door partway, not bothering to mask his suprise.
"What's going on?"
"Welcome to the apartment!" Wilbur and Tommy chorused, as they had been previously instructed by Phil.
"It's a housewarming gift of sorts, and a thank you for bringing Tommy back," Kristen said with a warm smile.A white blur sped past Techno, and Wilbur nearly dropped the plate of cookies he was holding. With his free arm, he scooped up the culprit.
"Steve! You again?" Wilbur sputtered in disbelief. The cat merely turned its head away. Techno smiled slightly enjoying Steve's antics.
"Come on in," he said, swinging his door all the way open and beckoning the five of them to come inside. "I can't possible eat all this food by myself. And we wouldn't want Floof picking up on Steve's bad habits."
