Max arrived at Spoonerville Water Park as early as half eight so he could start his shift at nine like he always did every day. Even though he stopped at Spoonerville Cemetery to pay the damages his dad caused with the cash he counted last night, he managed to get to work on time and he did all on his bike no less. Despite managing paying the owner the correct amount of money and not a penny less, the owner was still mad about Goofy did and even told Max that he hoped that his dad would get buried somewhere that Max couldn't or didn't even want to remember. Max just walked away from him, got back on his bike and just continued to cycle to work. Max had heard people call his dad many things, including himself, but what the owner of the cemetery said about him was just unforgiveable, no matter how much damage he did.

After parking up his bike, Max headed to the lifeguard changing rooms. On the way, some female lifeguards greeted and waved to him and he waved and greeted back to them.

Max went into the changing room for male lifeguards. He went to his locker and was about to take his clothes off and change into his lifeguard swim shorts when he smelled something. It smelled like metal burning, but the fire alarm wasn't going off. He went to investigate and was shocked to see some knocked down metal lockers on fire. He found the nearest fire extinguisher and ran to get it.

"Don't even think of touching that fire extinguisher, Max Goof."

Max stopped and turned around to see who said that. But he couldn't find anyone.

"Yeah, let alone spraying water on us."

Max jumped when he thought he saw one of the flames speak to him.

"That's right, Max. It is exactly what you're thinking. We're flames that can speak and talk."

Max wasn't scared of a lot of things, but seeing these flames talk was making him very nervous. Not to mention that they had faces with a mouth, black pupils for their eyes, arms and legs.

"What – what d-d-d-do you wa-want?" Max stuttered.

"You," the largest flame said, whom Max assumed was the leader of the flames. "We want you."

"What do you want me for?" Max asked.

"Our mistress, Lady Penny of the Flames, demands your presence."

"And what does your lady want with me?" Max asked.

"The only way for you to find out is if you come with us."

"And if I don't?"

"You will come with us! Whether you come burnt or Unburnt, that's up to you. So, make your choice!"

"We prefer unburnt," said the flame, who Max assumed was the second-in-command. "Our lady will be very upset if we give you a few burns."

Max just scoffed, grabbed the fire extinguisher and aimed it at the flames.

"You can use that fire extinguisher on us and escape," the flame leader said, "but if you do, we will not only these water park to the ground –

"Only the slides, the sun loungers and the buildings," said the second-in-command flame. "Not the parts which contain water."

"Shut up, you!" the flame leader said. Then he turned back to Max. "Now, where was I?"

"You said you guys would burn the water park down if I use this fire extinguisher on you," Max said.

"Oh, yeah. But not just the water park. We will also burn all your friends."

"Yeah," said the second-in-command flame. "Whether they're customers, cleaners, your girlfriend lifeguards –"
