Looking For Max

Goofy was very busy in the house. He was spring cleaning, even though he was two or three months late. He did have a few accidents like vacuum cleaning up the rugs, mats and cup, plates, bowls and cutlery instead of the dust on the carpet and nearly falling off the ladder while he was dusting the ceiling and pulling down the curtains while trying to wash them, but it was keeping him occupied and made him feel useful.

Goofy had the radio in the background to keep him entertained while he cleaned the house up. He listened to Xavier Cugat the mambo king and he mamboed with him.

"We interrupt this mambo number to bring you an important announcement," the radio said. "For all of those who wanted to go to Spoonerville Water Park today, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed as the place has caught fire. I have received word that the fire has been put out and so far no one has been injured, but one lifeguard who has showed up to work has been missing. And that lifeguard is one Max Goof."

"That's my boy," Goofy said. Then he mumbled as he went back to work. Then he realised what the radio said and then he started to panicked.

"My boy Maxie is missin'?" he cried. "Not if I can help it." He grabbed his house keys, ran out of the house, locked it and started to run to the water park.

"I'm-a comin', Maxie!"

The more Goofy continued to run to the water park, the more out of breath he became, but he was still determined to get there for Max's sake. And he managed to reach it. He even had enough energy to pass through the large crowd to get to the front, which was held back by a few policemen and policewomen. He saw that the water park wasn't burning anymore and it was partly burnt and damaged, but a few parts of it, like the water slides, were still standing. He saw Mr. Pendon, Mr. Surfup, the fire chief and the police chief were talking to each other in front of the closed entrance gate.

As he called for Mr. Pendon, Goofy bumped into Lisa and her children. Lisa was wearing her usual black sports bra, ripped blue jeans and her sandals, the same outfit she wore since high school. Bennie was wearing a blue sleeveless shirt, brown shorts and black trainers and Alicia was wearing a pink tank top, yellow shorts and white trainers.

"Hi, Uncle Goofy," the twins said together as they hugged him.

"Hi, kids," Goofy said. Then he turned to Lisa. "Miss Lisa, please tell me you and your kids found Maxie."

Lisa sighed. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Goof, but I'm afraid we haven't. And we're worried about Max as much as you are."

"Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention please?"

Everyone went silent and turned to see Mr. Pendon at the entrance.

"Thank you," Mr. Pendon said. "I have good news and bad news. The good news is that the fire is put out and it's not severely damaged."

The crowd cheered and applauded.

"The bad news is that we must close for a whole week to clean up the damage, replace and make it safe for you guys to come back in here and have fun. I apologise for any inconvenience and we will refund your money."

"What about Max?" Bennie cried.

"Yeah, what about Max?" the whole crowd asked.

Hearing the crowd ask for Max's whereabouts really touched Goofy. It was nice that Max was so respected and popular with everyone at this water park.

"I regret to inform you that we haven't see any trace of Max Goof, with the only exception of his backpack and his bike," said the fire chief. Then he showed the burnt backpack and the burnt bike to the crowd, which shocked everyone especially Goofy.

"We have seen nothing else of him to trace with, not even a single hair of his," the police chief went on. "If we see him, we will let you know. We promise."

"Thank you for coming," Mr. Pendon said. "And once again, I apologize for any inconvenience. Please head to those tables on the right for the refunds."

"But do so nice and quietly," the police chief ordered.

Everyone went to get their money to the three tables on the right and the policemen and policewoman made sure that there was no trouble.

Lisa put her hand on Goofy's shoulder. "If we find Max, Mr. Goof," she said, "we'll let you know and bring him to you, I promise."

"Thanks, Miss Lisa," Goofy said, who touched her hand back.

"Come on, kids," Lisa said to her kids. "Bye, Mr. Goof."

"Bye, Miss Lisa. Bye, kids." Goofy waved as he watched her take her kids back to her car.

Then Goofy started to look for Max.

No matter how tired or aching he was, Goofy kept on searching for Max. He had to search completely on foot as he had no car and no money to catch a taxi or catch a bus or even rent a bike let alone buy it. He called out for Max and tried to look for clues like Max's footprints or something he might have dropped like his wallet or his phone, but he couldn't. He even tried Max's favourite places like the movie theatre, Behemoth Burger Stand and the skate park (Goofy remembered that his son hung out here to remind him about the good times he had practicing for the college x games after he had to forfeit due to his accident), but he had no better success.

When he had finished searching the whole of Spoonerville, Goofy sadly headed for home. He was so sad that he couldn't find his only son, his only child, and it also was sunsetting that he couldn't see where he was going and he stepped on an abandoned skateboard on the sidewalk. He did his usual hollering as he skated down the street. He tried to stop it, but he couldn't. He did stop but after he skated all the way to a gas station and crash into the back of an RV.

That RV belonged to his neighbour and friend Pete and it was the same one he took his son PJ on their camping vacation after the latter finished the ninth grade. It was also the one when Goofy and Max discovered that Bigfoot existed.

Humming, Pete came out of the shop, carrying a newspaper and six cans of beer. He got into the RV and drove off.
