Chapter 8 (The Hideout)

Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz) POV

"Alfred. Good to see you, old friend." "You too, Master Bruce." The two smile at each other, like father and son hanging out after years apart.

"HOLY CRAP, HE'S SMILING."

"GENUINELY SMILING."

"THE WORLD IS ENDING."

"How is Batman smiling means the end of the world."

"It's a figurative speech, J'onn."

"Ah, I see." I still need to get the hang of those.

Alfred looked at the bat family. "I presume this isn't a family gathering." "Mission report." "Well then, please use the bat computer, my daughter's waiting there. Mr. Fox, Mr. Allnut, and Mr. Langstorm are in the lab. Ms. Thompkins is in the medical room. I advise you all to go there for any recent injuries. Oh, and Mr. Freeze wishes to speak with you." "Understood. I'll meet him right now. Everyone else, make the report or take care of your wounds."

"Mr. Freeze works with Batman?"

"I'm honestly not surprised at this point."

"I think my brain can no longer tell what's real or not."

"My world perception has been shattered."

Batman walks into the lab, goes through a door with a snowflake symbol on top, and meets Mr. Freeze. He's editing the setting for the cryogenic chamber containing his frozen wife, Nora Fries.

"Batman, about time you came here. I see your suit heater is working" "Yes, it does. What do you want." "Do you have a sample of bane's new venom?" "Some of it might have spilled on my suit during our fight."

Mr. Freeze scans Batman's suit, finding some venom on it.

"This will be suitable. Leave the suit in the case. I'll handle the rest." "Why do you need venom?" "I'm working on a formula. I'll need some lab rats for the experiments." "I'll prepare a private laboratory for you." "I'm still surprised you would allow me to collab with Wayne Enterprises publically instead of just keeping me in the dark." "You need more help than Batman can give you, so Bruce Wayne had to move into the picture. Besides, It helped me go incognito with criminals, and public reputation is Bruce Wayne's problem, not yours."

Mr. Freeze smiled. "Thank you, truly. I don't know how you could forgive me for my past crimes, but I'm grateful. You've given me more chance to save Nora than I deserve." Batman walks toward Freeze, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Everyone deserves a second chance. It's their choice whether or not to accept it."

Batman starts walking towards the exit. He stops and says, "We'll save her, Victor. I promise you that." "I know, Bruce. You're not heartless enough to break a broken man's heart. Not even if he's your enemy."

Freeze puts a hand on the chamber, leans forward, puts his forehead against it, and says. "We'll see each other soon, my love. I won't give up on you." Batman proceeds to exit the room. 'We'll save her, Victor. I won't stop until I find a cure. Neither of you deserves to live this cruelly.'

"I feel like I could cry now."

"You're not the only one."

Victor Fries. Based on his file, he's a broken soul turn monster. Glad to see Batman following his beliefs in redemption and is healing a broken man. A person like him doesn't deserve to die. He deserves to live happily.

Batman went to the lab, took off his suit, and put it in its case. A scientist walks over to him. He was wearing a lab coat, had a pair of glasses, and had a white streak beside his hair. (For a better description, I use the earth 27 Kirk design.)
