Chapter One

•Y/N's pov:
*Ring*Ring*Ring*
  I wake up with a start, my phone ringing on it's bedside table. I groan and pick my phone up, seeing that it's Camila. I swipe and bring the phone up to my ear.
"Hello? Y/N?" Camila asks, it sounds like she's been crying.
"Camila? It's so late." I mumble.
"I know niña. I have wonderful news though! Luz! She's back!" Camila yells into the phone, I feel tears well up in my eyes.
"I'll be right over!" I yell, hanging up, and rushing into my parents room to wake them up.
"Ma! Wake up!" I yell, shoving my mom awake.
My mom groans and moves her head to look at the clock by her bed and then at me. She opens her eyes slightly wider and frowns, a tired expression worn on her face.
"It's 11 pm Y/N. What could possibly be so important right now?" Mom asks, rubbing her eyes.
"I need to go to the Noceda's household! Luz is back!" I whisper yell, my mom bolts upright and grabs my shoulders.
"Are you serious? Okay, okay. I'll drive you there, will you spend the night?" My mom asks, I nod my head.
"For as long as I can ma!" I yell, running back to my room to pack up some clothes and games for the next few nights.
I hear my mom get out of her bed and walk down the stairs and into the kitchen. I giggle happily, waiting for this exact moment to see Luz again after her "trip" to a camp for the summer. Though I knew Luz went somewhere else, after all, she did visit me from the spirit realm. We didn't talk long, but I at least knew she was safe.
Once my belongings were gathered I rushed down the stairs to find mom by the front door, a rain jacket on. I nod my head at her and grab my F/C rain coat, sliding my arms through the sleeves and pulling the hood over my head.
"Are you ready honey?" My mom asks, I just nod my head eagerly making my mom laugh at me.
Mom opens the door and we walk out into the rain that's falling heavier than normal. It reminds me of the rain last time I saw Luz. 'Does it have something to do with Luz? Maybe how she got back from wherever she was?' I think, opening the passenger door to the car, stepping in, and closing the door behind me.
Mom rushes to the other side of the car and opens the drivers side of the cars door. Stepping in, she revs up the engine and closes the door behind her. Mom reverses out of the driveway and drives down the street and out of our neighborhood to go towards Luz's. The car ride is silent as I sit in my seat, practically bouncing up and down.
"It's been what, two months since you've last seen Luz? I can understand why you're so excited." Mom states, chuckling to herself.
"It's been too long mom, I know that for sure." I say, causing mom to nod.
The rest of the car ride is silent. That is until mom pulls up by the curb in front of Luz's house.
"Honey, I want you to be back home in three days, okay? I'll call you when I'm on my way to pick you up. Afterwards we need to go school shopping for supplies, alright?" Mom asks, I nod my head and go to open the door but mom grabs my shoulder.
"Do you understand sweetie?" Mom asks, I nod my head.
"In three days, you'll call when you're coming to pick me up, got it." I say, causing mom to smile at my eagerness.
I open up the car door and push it outwards. I run up to the front door of Luz's house and knock. I hear shuffling inside and feet getting closer to the door. The door unlocks and opens up to reveal Camila, a smile spreads on her face. Her eyes are puffy from crying and I raise my eyebrows, as I've never seen Camila cry before.
"Come in! Come in!" Camila says happily, I smile and step inside.
I take my wet coat and shoes off and look around the living room. Camila closes the door behind me. I see an eel like creature on the couch next to four people I've never seen before. I notice their pointy ears and laugh. They all look at me with saddened expressions.
"What's with the costumes?" I ask, trying to sound funny. No one laughs.
Instead I hear footsteps run quickly towards me and I'm engulfed in a hug.
"OMG!!! Y/N!!!!! EEEEEEE!!" Luz yells, causing me to laugh.
I hug her back and look behind her shoulder to see the purple haired girl glare at me.
"Nice to see you too Luz. It's been a few weeks!" I chuckle, pulling away from Luz's grasp.
I gasp when I see Luz's face, she herself has been crying, her eyes puffy.
"W-what happened? Why is everyone sad or crying?" I ask, moving my arms to my sides. Luz looks down at her feet.
"About that...." Luz begins, scratching the back of her neck.
"Luz....are you okay? Is everyone alright? What's with those people with the pointy ears? Are you hurt? And who's the eel creature?" I say, bombarding Luz with questions. Luz looks anxious.
"Y/N niña, you're asking too many questions for poor Luz to answer. Luz, please explain to Y/N when you're ready." Camila scolds.
"You're right mamá. I'm sorry Luz. Tell me when you're ready and I'll listen at any time." I say, grabbing Luz's hands. "Just know I'm always here for you if you need someone. Though it seems like you've made a lot of friends by the looks of it." I chuckle out, trying to lighten the mood for poor Luz.
Luz snorts and nods her head. Luz walks over to the couch and I happen to get a good look at everyone on the couch. One in particular grabs my attention, the blond boy who looks to be around my age, maybe younger. He looks down at the ground, his solemn expression making me feel bad. Next to the blond is a short and slightly chubby girl, she's adorable. She has a baby face and wears glasses that sit on top of her nose. Next to the girl with glasses sits a boy who's about the same height as the blond sitting at the edge of the couch. Sitting second to last on the couch is the girl who glared at me, she sits with purple hair covering her face partially. She's fair skinned, pretty cute, and looks over at Luz with a look of endearment. 'Ah, I see. The purple haired girl likes Luz. Boy am I gonna tease Luz later.' I think, a smile on my face. And last but not least is the eel like creature, it looks at me with a fearful expression wearing on it's face. I feel bad for the poor thing.
"Y/N, these are my friends I made while I was away. The one at the end of the couch with blond hair, his name's Hunter. The girl next to him is Willow. Beside Willow is Gus, and next to Gus is Amity, my girlfriend. And on the opposite side of the couch of Hunter, is Vee. Say hi everyone! This is my best friend, Y/N!" Luz exclaims, I smile at her.
"Hello Y/N, it's nice to meetcha! I'm Gus!" Gus says, standing up and holding up his hand for me to high-five. I smile at his weird ways and high five him.
Gus goes to sit down and the adorable girl, Willow stands up next. She pushes her glasses up the bridge of her nose and she offers a polite but forced smile.
"Hi! I'm Willow." She states, waving at me. Her voice is so sweet.
"It's nice to meet you Willow and Gus. Uhm, did I hear you correctly Luz that Amity is your girlfriend? Why didn't you tell me last time we saw each other?" I ask, mocking a pained expression. Luz and Amity blush as they look at each other.
"I'm just teasing you two. You guys are cute together!" I say, causing Amity's blush to deepen as she pushes her loose hair behind her pointy ear.
"Y/N!!! Stooooop!" Luz whines, making me chuckle.
Vee slithers out of the living room and into the kitchen, which causes Camila to follow after the eel like being.
"So...." I begin, only to get cut off by a cough.
I turn to look at the blond boy, Hunter. He must feel my gaze as he looks up at me and freezes once he looks at me. I quirk an eyebrow and walk up to him.
"Are you okay Hunter? Are you sick? If you guys came back tonight, it's sure been raining for awhile. Maybe you should lay down? It seems like you've all had a long day..." I say, trying my best to be less awkward around Luz's new friends.
I back away from Hunter and over by Luz, she just nods her head.
"We should all get some rest. It has been a pretty long and stressful day. Who wants to sleep in my room and who wants to sleep downstairs" Luz asks.
"I'll sleep with you! Uhm, I mean, I can sleep in your room with you. Willow, would you wanna join?" Amity asks, blushing slightly. I inwardly chuckle.
"Sure Amity!" Willow responds, forcing another smile on her face. I look over at Luz to see she's looking at me already.
"Well, I guess three upstairs and three downstairs. You okay to stay down here with the boys Y/N?" Luz asks, I nod my head and offer a comforting smile.
"Of course Luz. I'll manage." I say, chuckling to myself. Luz just nods and walks towards the stairs with Willow and Amity.
"Goodnight you three!" Luz yells back, waving to each of us before getting out of my sight.
I sigh and look down at my socks. 'How can she be so happy when obviously everyone else around her isn't? And what the hell happened? Why is everyone so depressed?' I sigh again and walk over to the couch and sit over where Vee was sitting previously.
"Hey Y/N?" Gus asks, I look over at him through half closed eyelids.
"Yes Gus?" I ask, yawning.
"Where are the blankets and pillows?" He asks, I open my eyes widely and laugh at his questions.
"Lemme go get us some. How many blankets and how many pillows?" I ask, running my fingers through my messy hair.
"One blanket for me and one pillow for me. And uhm, nothing for Hunter. He doesn't really sleep." Gus says, leaning closer to whisper the last part to me. I offer a smile and nod.
I walk out of the living room and towards the closet where Camila keeps all of the blankets and pillows. I grab two pillows and two blankets. I close the door and begin to walk back, but stop in my tracks. 'That Hunter kid seemed pretty exhausted. I might as well get him a pillow and blanket too.' I think, walking back and grabbing another pillow and blanket.
I make my way back to the living room to see Gus already passed out. I just smile and walk over and plop the things onto the side of the couch no one is sitting on. I grab a pillow and slowly place behind Gus's head, then I slowly drag the blanket onto him to cover him up. He lets out a relaxed sigh, which makes me giggle at the boy. I then grab a pillow and blanket for Hunter.
"Hey. Gus said you didn't sleep or whatever, but you look pretty exhausted. I got you a blanket and pillow anyways. Here ya go." I explain, Hunter looks at me and then the pillow and blanket.
"T-thank you." Hunter says, I just smile and nod my head.
"Of course. Sleep well." I offer.
I then walk over to the lamp and pull the string to turn it off. Darkness surrounds the room and I smile to myself. I place the pillow on the ground a bit away from the couch and then toss the blanket on top of it. I crouch down and sneak underneath the covers and lay down. I place my head on top of the pillow and pull the covers over myself. I smile happily and close my eyes, sleep soon taking hold of me.
