CHAERIM THOUGHT A lot about her mistakes that she made in the last game and they bothered her. mostly because she wanted to be able to surpass seonghwa someday soon, but also because she didn't want to be a burden to her team that praised her so much. i mean, she wasn't even supposed to be on the boy's team as a girl. chaerim's whole life as of late seemed to be about proving herself.

so, after school one day when they didn't have soccer practice, chaerim went to the field alone to brush up on her skills. a rest day? what's that?

chaerim put in her airpods and got to work. she practiced everything from dribbling to long ball kicks. she didn't want to stop until everything was perfect.

as she took a water break, she was shocked by how cold the bench was as she sat down. the sun had set already.

"when did it get so late?" chaerim wondered, sipping her water.

she was about to get up once again, not caring about what time it was, to practice more. practice more. practice more.

but something caught her eye.

across the field near the stadium entrance, was that... park seonghwa? he walked towards where she was but didn't seem to notice her yet, syncing up his airpods to his phone.

chaerim groaned, but continued to walk out onto the field like she didn't notice him either.

"what are you doing out here so late at night?" she heard over her shoulder a moment later.

turning to seonghwa, she looked up and down at his practice jersey and gym shorts, "probably the same thing as you."

"i didn't expect to see anyone out here so late," he said, "but why did it have to be you?"

"i was here first, so you can stop sulking like i did something wrong. i'll stay on this side, you stay on the other." she told him strictly.

he nodded, "fine."

"great. nice doing business with you," she swiftly turned away, dropping her soccer ball on the grass and kicking it.

"wait, chaerim," seonghwa blurted.

chaerim stopped, looking over her shoulder at him, "hm?"

"i wanted to ask you something," he seemed to hesitate.

"then ask already."

his lips parted, but words didn't come out. seonghwa ended up going with, "...i'll just ask you later." she seemed too agitated to be able to take in what he wanted to say properly.

"alright?" chaerim said, "weirdo."

seonghwa went to his side of the field, too, and warmed up. every few seconds, he would glance at chaerim's side just to watch her.

he tried desperately to squint his eyes and hope that he could pretend she wasn't pretty for once. truthfully, his mind was always full of her. she was so beautiful to him, so full of personality. he didn't want to think like that about the girl he was determined to hate.

chaerim's ugly, chaerim's ugly, chaerim's ugly.... ugh, why is chaerim so pretty?!?

seonghwa frustratedly kicked his ball into the goal and went to sit down. he fiddled with his wristband.

i have to talk to her. seriously.

he stood up. he took a deep breath. he headed straight toward's chaerim's half of the field.

after kicking another goal and silently cheering to herself, chaerim turned to see him. he approached her and just stood in front of her, not saying a word, face expressionless.
