I decided to head up to Wapiti Reservation to help with what i could. As soon as I showed up Captain Monroe, an army man who has been helping the tribe calls out to me. "Miss Morgan!" "Here I am, as promised," I tell him. "Chief's gone out to find medications. It's quite a business," I look around. "Yes. I thought we were through with all this," I say. "We are, mostly. Colonel Favors seems to think the natives have broken some promise they never made and apparently he's punishing them by withholding vaccines sent down by the federal government," Captain Monroe says. "Really?" "I was supposed to oversee the administration of the vaccines. Now I hear the wagon's been diverted," I scoff. "Why would he do such a thing?" I inquire. "To be honest, i don't really know. They say he didn't have a very good war so maybe he's trying to start another one," I look at him. "Is that what you think?" I ask. "I'm trying to find out... and he knows I'm trying to find out. He'd love to provoke me just as much as he'd love to provoke these poor bastards," "Meaning?" He sighs as he makes some tonics for the women. "Meaning that despite the fact that I think he's a horse's ass, he knows i think that. So we're just stuck here trying to make the best of things," I shake my head. "This is the best of things? Children dying of diseases?" I look around the reservation. "No. It's awful," Captain Monroe says. "Where is this wagon? Where can we find it?" I question. "I can show you. It was supposed to be heading to Wapiti coming up from Valentine. But it's been diverted south instead," "Come on, Captain Monroe," I state, walking to Salem. "Miss Morgan, we must act with due caution," Cap says. "We shall. We surely shall. Now come!"
"Captain Monroe, here are the vaccines," "You got them?" i nod. "I did," "You know we could both swing for this," I chuckles slightly. "I'm a little past caring about hanging, Cap," He nods. "I just hope Colonel Favors thinks this was robbed by bandits and not.." "Oh, no. I'm still a bandit. There ain't no doubt about that," "Of course. Well i better get to work," We shake hands. "Bandit or not, Miss Morgan. This was a good thing. Maybe it'll get us both killed but it had to be done," "I hope so,"
I come back to camp to find Trelawney with his packed suitcases. "Josiah," He looks at me. "I, um, I was, uh," I sit next to him at the table. "Leaving again?" I ask. "Yes. just leaving... I'll see you soon," I tap fingers on the table. "Perhaps," "What do you mean?" He asks. "Well... if i was you, I'd disappear too. This is all pretty much over," He looks at me, shocked. "I'll be back," He tries to reassure me. "No you won't. Let's not pretend no more. Get outta here," He stares at me. "I'll miss you, Elisa. You've been a fine friend to me," I smile as he stands. "Let's not get over sentimental. Get out of here. Place is quiet. You go with mine and Arthur's blessing," He nods. "Thank you, Elisa," He walks out of camp. The sun shines through the trees as i sit there, still tapping my fingers on the table. Charles and Arthur walk up to me. "We found a friend," I look to find Rains Fall with them. "Miss Morgan," He says as he hitches his horse nearby. "Sir," I say standing up. "How are you?" He asks. I sigh. "I'm alive, I guess," He nods. "I hope so," "What can I help you with?" "I am sorry to impose on you again but I believe i made progress brokering peace," I nod. "You have?" I ask as we all sit down. "I believe i have. There's a meeting where we can put all of his alleged grievances and mine on the table. Now, he has lied to me more times than I care to remember. But maybe this time, he must want peace. Why could he possibly want to humiliate us further," "Well, we got words for his kind, but theyre colloquial," "Perhaps I could ask a request one last time. My men are not allowed to carry arms," "You want us to keep the peace?" "Yeah, it'll be a lot of dull ceremonial talking but I feel with some non tribe members present their chances of lying or worse will be reduced," Arthur and Charles look at me. "Will you, Elisa?" I absently touch the little ball attached to my gunbelt. "Yeah, come on,"
We arrive to the destination. "Colonel Favors, Captain Monroe. We come in peace," Rains Fall says. "Hello, again," Captain says. "Who are these three?" Colonel asks. "They're friends of my people," Colonel Favors looks at me. "A woman? Interesting people, I see," He states. "Yeah, they won't cause any trouble," Rains Fall says. "Well, I should hope not. Well, Mr. uh–" "Chief," Rains Fall corrects. "Right, uh, Mr... I cant say that silly name," "In English they call me Rains Fall," "Yes, yes, Im sure they do," I grabbed the ball on my belt, squeezing it in anger. "Listen, we're all Americans here. And we want an outcome. But quite frankly... quite frankly, I'm confused. You're men are... little more than criminals, in my opinion," Arthur begins to cough. I glance at him as Favors continues. "Breaking peace treaties... we've made. Causing disturbances in everyone's lives. But... I pride myself on benign a gentleman. Really, I do. But there are limits," Arthur's coughing starts to get worse. "Are you okay, man!?" Favors exclaims. "Someone, Jackson, take him away," Favors commands. "Where was I?" Favors asks as Arthur is taken to a tent. A soft breeze flows through. That's when I could feel something coming. I couldn't tell if it was with Arthur or with Favors. "You're a gentleman with limits," Captain Monroe says. "Are you being facetious, sir?" I look around, searching for any kind of clue. "I said, "are you being facetious", Captain Monroe?" Favors questions again. "No, sir, I am not," "Chief Rains," "It's Rains Fall," "Exactly. Chief Rains.." As Colonel Favors continues to lie with his words, Charles looks at me. "You alright, Elisa?" Charles whispers. "Shh," I whisper, trying to figure it out. I listen to the breeze, looking for any sign at all. That's when it hit me. Captain Monroe's image popped into my head for a quick second. As soon as it did, Arthur comes out. "The lands that you currently occupy belong to the United States Government. Why is that so confusing sir?" Favors asks. Rains Fall stand up. "Good day, Sir," "Well, that was remarkably unproductive," Captain Monroe takes a stand against Favors. Charles, Arthur and I watch. "We gotta protect Captain Monroe, Dad," I whisper. He nods. "I agree, kid," "Treason! Arrest this man!" Favors commands. I bring out one of my knives, taking one of the army men, hostage. "Let him go," I stated. "This si getting out of hand.." Captain Monroe stated. "Captain Monroe, lets get out of here," I demand. "If I were you, I would keep my mouth shut, amigo," Once Captain Monroe was behind us, we begin walking back to the horses. "Arthur, Charles, Captain Monroe. Mount up. We're leaving," I say as I back up. "You wont get away with this!" "I'll kill you for this," The guy I had hostage said. "Oooh... sweetheart... you shouldn't have said that," As soon as I got Salem, I slit his throat and hopped on her, riding off after the others.
