A few days later...

Your POV

"A ball? Tonight?" I looked up at my maid from the documents I was studying as it was seeking approval.

"Yes, your highness." Ayame says as she held out my new ballgown. "Your father says they will be appearing again."

"Why can't we just blacklist them?" I sighed. "I understand about having peace. But it's bugging me that they're still trying to ask for my hand."

Ayame was silent as her gaze grew dark. She looked down as she clutched her dress. "I have a bad feeling for tonight, your highness." She says worriedly. "You're like a daughter to me, your highness. A child I never had. So..." she trailed off as I stood up.

"So~?"

"I made adjustments to the dress. There's a strap on it, so you can drop the big amount of layers to a singular layer of the dress, in case of an emergency. It will make it easier for you to run. The dress has a split on the side, to gain access in running. Loid came up with the idea as I explained my bad intuition about tonight. So I went along with the idea." She explained.

"L-Loid?" I tilt my head in confusion.

"This kingdom will fall... when it does, flea. Don't return here. It would not be safe. We're trying to get our allies to join us in defense. No one is jumping on board until King Chevalier agrees. Without our most powerful ally, no one would join our forces."

Right... King Chevalier. Ruler of Beastia. Second son of the latest king. Tactful. Intelligent. Conservative. Brutal on the battlefield. Unlike his uninterested-fit-to-rule brothers, he was originally going to be arranged to be my future husband. But... let's say things didn't end well between him and my father. He wasn't interested in settling down at the time I turned 20. That I was too much of pure soul to understand how our government work. And too irresponsible of my duties as princess. He doesn't want a lousy simpleton in his way. Which I don't blame him. But I have grown mature by our last encounter. Ok, maybe I'm a little immature on running away from my guards from time to time, but I have grown to understand things, even if my father rejects me to knowing violence and our cruel world we live in.

"Most likely he would help.. depending how the situation." I replied. "I remember those monthly visits he would do, when the late King himself came over for tea to discuss warfare matters, when we were kids. He was such a bookworm. I remembered his words, when I asked him about warfare. He said he would help an ally if there's something in exchanged for his alliance. Something that will benefit his Kingdom when he takes rule. So dealing with him, I believe there's have to be something worth to benefit him in the long run."

"You always understood King Chevalier." She broke a smile.

"Yeah, but frankly.. I'm not interested in keeping up with our Monarchy for long, Ayame." I sighed. "If only I had a brother to get this burden off me."

The conversation ends there as Ayame ushered me to the bathroom to get ready for the ball tonight.

Time has passed and the sun has set, Ayame and few other maid help finish my grooming my hair and do my makeup. My princess crown was placed on my head and I stood up. I looked into the mirror and smiled.

As it was a ball, there's one rule our palace guest must comply with. No one wears red, our Kingdom's representation color, unless you're a royal family member. I thank my maids and I heard the music start to play. I looked over to my window as the guest were arriving. I heard a faint voice of our royal jester announcing the names of each royal and noble guest invited tonight. I head out of my room and make my way to the royal hall ballroom gates. There awaited my parents.

"You look beautiful sweetheart." My mother smiled.

"Thank you. You know, you could've save the trouble if you gave me a brother." I crossed my arms.

"Not this again. Y/n, you know we're busy people." My father points out.

"But not at night." I teased.

"I wonder what books you have been reading... Your teasing is never-ending." He chuckles.

The conversation ends as our jester gathers everyone's attention and announces us.

"Ladies and gentlemen!! The royal family... your highness, Princess Y/n of Roseina." The guards opened the door and I walked through as I waved my hand as so. Then I saw Loid dressed in the royal guard uniform and he held out his hand to help me down the stairs. I head to my assignment seat and waited for my parents. "Now, your majesty, the King and Queen of Roseina!" My parents arrived next to me and everyone applaud then bowed. We sat down on our thrones and the music started to play once again.

I stared at Loid and he caught my gaze. He nods as he reassures me everything will be ok. I take a deep breath and I look out to the party. A familiar figure walks up to us. Speaking of the Brutal ruler.

"Well... isn't King Chevalier? It's has been so long your coronation." My father's voice boomed.

"It has indeed been far too long." He says coldly. "Your highness... You seem well."

"Oh come on... Chev. How many times will I ask to drop the formalities?" I smiled.

"As King, I cannot do that. We aren't kids now, your highness," he says simply.

"Did you bring your brother's along?" My father asked.

"No. Unfortunately, we're preparing for a war at the moment. I left the Kingdom in Leon's hands, while I'm absent to attend this ball. I received your letter. And I decided to come personally instead of writing back." He explains. "Do you have a moment your majesty?"

"Why of course. Right this way." My father got up. "I will be right back." He looked at me and my mother. We nod.
