EXPLOSIVES-078

"This is life here." The King spoke causing the group to stop where he was standing as he watched the children practice archery. "Every day. But it came at a cost. And I wanted more of this. I wanted to expand. To create more places like this. Men and women lost their limbs. Children lost their parents because I sent them into battle against the wasted when I did not need to."

"This is different," Rick said, stepping towards the King.

The King shook his head. "It isn't."

"It is. The dead don't rule us. The world doesn't look like this outside your walls. People don't have it as good. Some people don't have it good at all." Matilda's father explained.

"I have to worry about my people." The King said.

Daryl huffed. "You call yourself a damn king. You sure as hell don't act like one."

The King walked forwards to Daryl, his eyes wandering over each of the members. "All of this came at a cost. It was lives, arms, legs. The peace we have with the Saviors is uneasy, but it is peace. I have to hold on to it. I have to try. Although the Kindom cannot grant you the aid you desire, the King is sympathetic to your plight. I offer our friends Daryl and Rosie asylum for as long as they quire it. They will be safe here. The Saviors do that set foot inside our walls."

"How long do you think that's gonna last?" Daryl asked before he walked away.

Matilda and Max were the next two to follow the redneck, which caused everyone else to follow. Max caught up with his father and slipped his hand into his dad's as his mom walked between her brother and Rosie.

"Hey, alright, open it up. We're gone." Daryl called towards the gatekeeper. As the gate opened and the group walked out, Matilda and her father stopped the redneck.

"You're not," Rick said.

"I'm not staying here," Daryl countered.

Matilda placed her hand on his forearm. "You have to. It's the smartest play. You know it is."

"Try to talk to Ezekiel." Her father looked at her husband. "Or stare him into submission, whatever it takes."

"Max, I want you to stay with dad, okay," Matilda said to her son before signing. "Remember only use the gun if you really have to."

Max nodded as he stands behind his father and Matilda kissed his father's cheek. "We'll be back soon."
