FAMILY -115

"No sign of them anywhere. No traces, no tracks, nothing." Michonne said as she and Max met back up with his father and Carol after the older woman had said she has seen Whisperers. "You sure you saw three?"

"Yeah. I'm sure." The older woman nodded.

Michonne exchanged a look with the Dixons. "Carol...how long have you been taking those pills for?"

"Since I got back. It's fine. They're like coffee," Carol snapped, defensively. "We can't stay out here."

"Alright. Find a place with walls, hole up for a little while," Daryl nodded. "Get some sleep."

Max walked next to Alice as they found a building with the name Barnett Academy on it. They spilt up into two groups, the teenagers going with Daryl and Carol, while the others went with Michonne and Violet.

The young boy walked past Carol who was staring at a cookbook before stopping and placing a hand on her shoulder. The woman jumped, dropped the book, and looked at Max.

Max's face filled with concern. "You okay, Carol?"

"Yeah," she breathed, walking away.

The teenager looked unsure as he caught up with Alice and his father. Carol volunteered to keep the first watch which the three agreed to.

Daryl and Carol sat in the hallway, while Max and Alice stayed in the room next to it. The teenagers sat in silence next to each other, the redhead yawned and rested her head against the boy's shoulder with the tiniest smile on her face.

Max's heart leaped in his chest as he placed his head on top of hers. His cheeks turned beet red, and a smile graced his lips as Ally grabbed his hand, placed it on her land, and entwined their fingers.

Over the past year, the boy had gotten Alice to open up to him more than she had before. She was very secretive with stuff about her personal life, but she did share a few things, like her age, where she was from, and what her life was like before the fall.

Alice still keep a few things to herself but told him the main important things. She was a mouth or two older than him, was from Massachusetts but got stuck in Pennsylvania with her oldest brother when they were visiting their grandma who died a month into the fall.

Her oldest brother, Hudson went on a run and never came back. She had assumed he died a week or so when he didn't come home. She told Max about her life before the fall, living on a farm with her parents, four brothers, and a sister on the way. It was a good life, a comfortable life.
