MAX clenched her fists, eyes shut, in concentration of trying to reach out to her best friend.

Her fists started projecting a light blue hue, a sign that she was in progress and that it was working.

"Max"

The said girl's eyes shot open, seeing that her abilities had indeed worked.

Standing right in front of Max was her 5'7, hotheaded, blond mullet haired best friend.

Vance fucking hopper.

She stood up, showing the quite noticeable height difference between the two, her being about 6 inches taller than him.

"Vance"

Max threw her arms around the blond teen in a tight hug, deeply trying to contain the tears that were threatening her waterline. she didn't want to cry in front of him since she simply thought it was weird being vulnerable like that.

Though she didn't notice that single small tear roll down her cheek onto Vance's denim jacket.

Vance was just as much of a mess like her.

He couldn't remember the last time he heard her voice or seen her. It had been a long challenging time for the both of them, not knowing if they'd ever see each other again.

Max released Vance from her hold, softly grabbing the sides of his face, staring into his beautiful blue eyes, searching for something, something that she wasn't sure of what exactly she looked for.

"I searched for you every fucking day the moment I found out you were missing, I never stopped in hopes that you were alive but..." she trailed off, the tears becoming harder and harder to hold back.

"I know" he said softly, surprising himself that he could use such a tone, but for her, he would do anything.

"I'm so sorry, I could've done something to prevent that horrible son of a bitch from getting his hands on you" Max said, her voice straining a bit.

"it's not your fault, you shouldn't be apologizing" He stated, knowing the girl had nothing to do with his abduction.

It wasn't his or hers fault, Vance seemed to be caught at a bad time and place.

if it were any other time, things with Vance and the grabber would've turned out differently than anticipated.

"why don't we catch up?"

________

To say Vance was ready to blow a fuse was an understatement.

He came to find out that Max had been getting into fights several times during the week because some punks wanted to pick fights with her after he left.

this was one of the moments where he desperately wished he was physically alive to give all the bastards that have been giving Max a hard time, a good old ass kicking.

though Vance was very pleased to find out, that Max had won every single fight, beating those punks till they were unconscious, giving them a reminder that they shouldn't be messing with an Havea.

Max's last name was well known in the state of Denver, along with other states. The Haveas were known for being giants and skilled fighters in the streets.

Max was only 15, standing at 6'1 and she was considered short amongst her family, but she still had a long way to go.

"Hows that Finney Blake kid doing?" Vance asked, his gruff voice making Max look at him

"I'm good friends with that kid, nobody bothers him, I've made sure of it" She replied, remembering a promise she made to a certain bandana wearing kid, before they parted ways.

"y'know I've really missed you" Vance whispered, listening to the soft breathing of the girl beside him.

He could tell that she hadn't been getting much or any sleep since he'd been reported missing, so he didn't miss the way her eyes began to droop a little during their conversation.

Vance knew she needed sleep, so he just let her be. finding comfort in her breathing softly beside him.

He felt happy in that moment. it felt like the moments they'd have whenever he was alive.

Vance deeply wished he and many others hadn't died at the hands of the grabber, maybe things could've turned out in a different way, who knows?

either way, Vance would cherish this moment with Max forever.
