"FINNEY Blake" Max announced, walking up to the said boy and his sister, Gwen, both who were unaware of the aggressive ghost tagging along with her.
"hey Max" Finney greeted, with a slight awkward smile, "Gwenny" she nodded towards the girl, who smiled in a silent response.
Max was the only person who believed Gwens ability when Finney went missing, which made them grow a bond as time went on.
"has anybody been messing with you guys?" The sibling duo knew that Max always sacred off or fought anyone who tried to hurt or mess with them, even if Finney could stand up for himself now.
Not only because she made a promise to watch over them for their late friend, Robin, but because she believed that they didn't deserve the shit they went through.
she knew what it felt like, to be treated a certain way even if you had done nothing wrong.
Gwen threw a glance to Finney who had found the sky to now be interesting, "there's a couple kids who have been bothering Finney afterschool, they won't leave him alone"
"It's fine Max, they're just being jerks who have nothing better to do" He tried to put off the situation, but in truth, those punks were beginning to get worse day by day.
"bullshit" Vance uttered, simply glaring at the brown-haired boy
"alright then, I'll leave it at that, let's head to school" Max said, completely ignoring what Vance had just said
______
"you really thought you were the shit, huh?" Max huffed, holding a nearly unconscious guy up by his shirt. he had blood running down his nose and mouth, sporting a black eye forming on the left side of his face.
the male she was holding was the leader of those useless punks who pestered the Blake siblings while they'd be on their way home.
Unfortunately, his buddies didn't happen to be around when she got him.
Vance could only watch the scene with a smirk, he liked seeing her fight. it seemed to be the only time he'd see her let loose.
"Max I think he's got the message" Finney said nervously, obviously having a dislike towards the scene. The girl only nodded towards him before she reverted her attention back to the boy in her hands
"now let this be known jackass, you fuck with Fin again, I fuck with you" Max declared, throwing the boy against the brick wall
The familiarity of Max's words made Finney think of Robin, remembering he had once said the same thing. and just for that moment, he saw a glimpse of Robin instead of Max.
They were both definitely alike, but so different in their own ways, Finney took note of that.
"you should get cleaned up" Vance muttered, eyeing the blood on her knuckles
The tall girl nodded, throwing a quick glance at Finney who was staring right back at her with a sad look in his eyes.
"you alright Fin?" she asked, albeit concerned.
Finney seemed to get out of the trance he seemed to be in, giving a nod to Max with a smile.
Vance could only watch this interaction with narrowed eyes.
______
"wanna tell me what's up with you or are we going to play the guessing game?" Max wanted to know what was up with the blond-haired boy beside her.
She noticed his mood turn sour after she walked the Blake siblings home. Vance only huffed turning away from her to whatever was playing on the tv.
"come on bear, tell me what's on your mind" at the use of the childhood nickname she used for him, he threw a glare at her.
"is there something going on between you and that dipshit," He asked,
"you mean Fin?" Max wondered aloud, Vance curtly nodding in response.
"of course not, we're simply friends, just like you and I" she responded, the boys eye twitching at her calling their relationship as only friends.
Max wasn't only a friend to him, he saw her more than that, which he began to slowly realize when he had been abducted and killed by the Grabber.
"we're more than friends and you know that shithead"
