"She obviously doesn't like me. I mean, what are the chances of the girl I like liking girls too? I mean, she dated you, Steve," Robin rambled, gesturing wildly. Steve sighed and leaned against the counter. No customers have been in in hours, save for Dustin coming in to talk to Steve and rent ghostbusters. It was a slow day, leaving nothing to distract or save him from Robin's rants about her most recent crush, and coincidentally, Steve's ex, Nancy Wheeler. He didn't mind, of course, but god did he want to tear his ears off after an hour of hearing about her 'perfect hair' and her 'beautiful eyes'.
Robin was still going on, now talking about Nancy's 'soft-looking lips-' while Steve zoned out. He was brought back to reality when the bell above the door rang, and he looked up to see his favorite brown eyes looking back. He quickly sat up and ran his hand through his hair, trying to fix it in case it was messy. Robin paused and narrowed her eyes at Steve, spotting the light pink blush that adorned his cheeks.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't the Steve Harrington. How're ya doin, Stevie? Your bites any better?" Eddie's dark eyes gazed at Steve's shirt, where the outline of bandages was visible.
"Eh, better than last time. What're you here for, Munson?"
Eddie dramatically put his hand to his chest and closed his eyes, acting offended. "Can't a man just visit his two favorite people in their place of employment?" He waited for Steve to answer, but when he didn't, he peeked through one of his eyes at him, and saw the man staring at him. His eyes widened for a split second before he winked. "See something you like, Harrington?"
Steve blinked back to reality, shaking his head to rid himself of the thoughts running wild. "You wish," he responded, but he couldn't control himself when his eyes flicked down to Eddie's lips. He wondered what they would feel like against his own. He blinked again before looking away.
Robin was watching from behind Steve, eyebrows raised. Now this was interesting. Eddie Munson was flirting with her best friend, and Steve was blushing at it. Of course, she caught Steve's glance at the other man's lips. It was glaringly obvious that he liked him. She coughed, causing both of their attention to move to her. "How're you, Eddie?" She asked. He smiled at her.
"How kind of you to ask, dear Robin! I am doing just fine, even better now that I'm with Harrington, here," He leaned over the counter and was practically nose-to-nose with Steve. She watched his reaction with interest as he didn't move away, and instead once again glanced down at Eddie's lips. If she had any doubts that they were interested in each other, they were crushed by now. She snorted and Steve jolted back, face red. Eddie smirked, then checked the clock on the wall. "Well, my friends, I'm afraid I must be going. I'm supposed to meet up with Henderson to plan our new D&D campaign. Goodbye Robin. And goodbye, Steve," he winked at Steve before turning around and confidently walking out the door.
Robin waited a minute after he left, sorting some of the movies, before she asked, "So, Munson, huh?"
Steve furrowed his brows. "What?"
"Oh, come on, I'm not stupid, dingus. Why didn't you tell me you like him?" This caught Steve off guard and he spluttered, trying to figure out how to answer his laughing friend.
"I don't- I don't like Eddie! What're you talking about? He's our friend," His voice wavered through his explanation, furthering Robin's thought that Steve must like Eddie Munson. Then, she realized, perhaps he hadn't quite realized himself.
"Steve, you do you, y'know, feel when you talk to him?" She questioned.
Steve shook his head. "No, nope, not doing this. I don't like Eddie because I'm not gay."
Robin raised her eyebrows, giving him an incredulous look. "Steve, I saw you look at his lips multiple times and you blushed when he was talking to you. It's so obvious."
"That's not- it's not-" He sighed. "Listen, Robin, I'm confused. I don't," he paused, looking down at his shoes. "I don't feel normal around Eddie. My stomach feels weird and my face feels hot and I feel like I can't talk. But I don't like him. I like girls, remember?"
"Steve, you do know you can like girls and boys, right?" Steve blinked.
"I can?"
"Yes, dingus. It's called bisexuality." She grinned at him as she saw realization dawn on his face.
"Oh. Oh. Oh my god, I like Eddie Munson."
"There you go."
"What do I do? Does he like me back? I can't tell him I like him, what if he doesn't? What if he doesn't even like guys? What if he's homophobic or something? What if-" Robin cut off his anxious rant.
"Okay. First of all, he's not homophobic. He knows I'm a lesbian and he's completely fine with it. Second of all, he does like guys. He's told me. And also, he's like, clearly gay. And thirdly, he likes you. He was flirting with you the entire time he was here."
"He was?"
"God, you're clueless. Give me one second." Robin walked over to the phone and dialed a number, waiting a second before someone picked up. Steve couldn't hear who it was on the other side of the phone. "Hey, sorry for calling you, are you busy or can you talk for a sec?" The person on the other side answered. "Cool. Uh, Steve wants to talk to you later, so can you come in after your whole nerd thing?" She paused. "Cool. See you, Eddie."
Steve's eyes widened. "Oh my god. You just told Eddie I want to talk to him. What am I gonna say? What am I gonna do? Oh god oh god oh god-"
"Well, lucky for you, Steve-o, Eddie has time before his whole dungeons thing or whatever it's called and he's on his way right now. So you have like, ten minutes to figure out what you're gonna say."
"Ten minutes?! You're joking... shit."
And soon, the bell above the door rang again, and when Steve looked up he saw Eddie Munson for the second time that day. He couldn't stop a blush from spreading across his face as he saw the other man's smile, wide and joyful and so beautiful. "Hey, Stevie," Eddie said, grinning widely. The sun coming in from the windows lit up his face and his brown eyes glowed like honey. Steve knew he had never seen someone so gorgeous, and he knew he was a goner. Robin smirked.
"I gotta take care of some things in the back. Nice to see you again, Eddie," she said, and leaned towards Steve. "Good luck, dingus," she whispered. He flipped her the bird but smiled.
"So, Harrington, why did you wanna see me again? Did you miss me?" Eddie winked. Steve took a deep breath before leaning over the counter towards Eddie. He could feel his breath as their lips brushed. Steve looked at his eyes, wide and glowing and his face was red.
"Is this okay?" Steve asked, and Eddie nodded, wordless. And so he closed the gap, and then they were kissing, and as corny as it is, Steve felt as if time had stopped. His skin was buzzing, and all he knew was he wanted to keep touching Eddie, and he never wanted to stop. It was soft, and gentle, and it was amazing, and god, if Steve didn't have to breathe, he would have continued forever. But he did have to breathe, so they pulled apart, panting, and he saw Eddie's pupils blown wide and a blush hot on his cheeks, and he was doing that smile again, the smile that turned him into a puddle.
"Careful, Harrington, if you keep looking at me like that, you'll make me think you like me," he breathed, and Steve laughed quietly.
"I do like you, Eddie, I like you so, so much,"
"You do?"
"I do," Steve confirmed. "I didn't know for a while, cuz I didn't know that bisexuality was a thing, and I was really confused, and I'm still kind of confused, but I know one thing for sure, and it's that I want to kiss you again," And so they did, Steve's hands in Eddie's hair and Eddie's hands on Steve's cheeks, and it was a little uncomfortable because it was over the counter, but neither of them cared. When they pulled apart again, they rested their foreheads against each other, and they laughed, and everything was perfect.
