Fae
The world was peaceful for once. The only sounds were the animals in the forest along with the calming sound of the waterfall behind me. The breeze blew calmly through my hair and carried the earthy smell from the forest with it. It was calming, and I could finally breathe.
The world has changed so much over the last few years. Sometimes it moved too fast for me. I preferred a slow calm pace but the world had other plans. So, to get away from how fast everything seemed, I went into the forest where everything was calm. Where there were no expectations for life, and I could just breathe.
Of course, it could never last too long. I heard the sound of a school bell traveling with the breeze and that was my cue to head inside for first period. I stood up and wiped the dirt off my blue jeans and a little off my green cardigan and my black bag before I headed inside the school building.
The only reason I even went to school was to keep up with the time periods and all that was changing. When I was in class everything seemed to slow down versus how chaotic the halls were when people headed to class. I was able to maneuver myself through the halls pretty well, especially when people would move when they saw me.
I'm not an extroverted person, but I made it very clear that I did not want to speak or be bothered by anyone. It caused people to both hate and respect me. I didn't really care since I was able to be left alone 90% of the time.
My first class was AP World History. I was the only Sophomore in this class, which was rare since most of the other students in the class were either Juniors or Seniors. I took a few exams and was able to get into a few higher level classes. I walked to the back of the room to my seat by the window and pulled out a book I borrowed from the library. I knew today would be a free day since we took a test last Friday.
I could hear the rest of the students filing in and taking their seats as well as the teacher walking in and closing the door. It was all background noise to me since more than half my focus was on my book. That was until I heard my name. "Fae, could you please hold up your hand?" My teacher asked. We probably got a new kid and he was going to sit by me since there was nowhere else. I raised my hand just high enough to be seen and turned my focus back to my book.
"Thank you Fae." My teacher said after a moment. I put my hand back down and tuned everything completely out. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a boy sit down but I didn't really pay any mind. I just hoped he wouldn't try to talk to me unless necessary.
"Excuse me, ma'am?" A very southern accented boy asked. "Yes?" I replied, not taking my eyes off my book. "If it isn't too much trouble, could I borrow a piece of paper?" He asked, his tone slightly strained.
I sighed and laid my book down and put a bookmark to hold my place before I grabbed a notebook from my bag that I never used. "Here. I've never used it so you can keep it." I said as I handed it to him. The boy who sat next to me looked very different than I was expecting.
He had reddish blonde hair, yellow/hazel eyes, and very pale skin. He took the notebook from my hand and smiled softly. "Thank you ma'am." He said, giving a slight nod. I slightly nodded back and returned to my book.
Soon the class was over and I put my book away and walked out of class before the boy could ask me for directions. Thankfully, he didn't try to run and catch up to me.
Jasper
Dread. It was the number one thing I felt, along with everything else. Alice and I walked to my first class. It was AP World History. I was hoping she and I could have this class together but unfortunately that didn't happen.
She kissed my cheek and walked to her first class. I took a deep breath and asked the teacher, who was standing at his desk, where I should sit. He looked around for a moment before he answered. "You can go and sit by Fae in the back. Fae, could you please hold up your hand?"
A dark haired girl raised her hand. She sat in the very back next to the window. She held a book in her hand that she kept her eyes on. "Thank you Fae." The teacher said and she put her hand down. "Go ahead and take a seat, Jasper. Today is a free day so you're welcome to do anything you wish today." He explained. I nodded and headed to my seat next to the dark haired girl named Fae.
I looked around a little, some of the other students had moved their desks around to be closer to their friends, others were doing things for other classes and some were sleeping. I gripped my pants tightly, I could hear and feel everything and I tried to keep myself in check.
I felt a very calm and content feeling coming from the girl beside me so I tried to focus on that. She didn't seem to be paying any attention to the other students. Her breathing was soft and calm, along with her demeanor. My hands loosened and I felt a little calmer but I needed to do something. I didn't bring anything with me unfortunately. I turned to look at the girl before speaking.
"Excuse me, ma'am?" I asked, my southern accent being more prominent than I meant to. She didn't even look at me when she replied. Her eyes stayed on her book. "Yes?" She asked. "If it isn't too much trouble, could I borrow a piece of paper?" I asked, My tone slightly strained.
She sighed and laid her book down and put a bookmark to hold her place before she grabbed a notebook from her black bag. She held out the notebook to me. "Here. I've never used it so you can keep it." She said, finally looking up at me.
She seemed to study me for a moment, but her emotions never faltered. No shock for how pale skin was or how yellow my eyes were. I took the notebook from her hand and smiled softly. "Thank you ma'am." I said politely, giving a slight nod. She slightly nodded in return and went back to her book.
True to her word, she never used it. The pages of the notebook were completely empty. I took a pencil from my pocket and began to write. I enjoyed writing poems, it helped me when everyone's emotions and smell overwhelmed me.
I became so focused on my writing that I didn't really notice people moving their desks back and grabbing their bags. And when the bell rang, Fae left as quickly as possible. I wondered why she did so. But I shook my head, I'd see her again and I would ask.
I put the pencil back in my pocket and closed the notebook. I saw Alice already at my classroom door and she hooked her arm through mine as we left. "Was everything alright?" She asked. "Yes, love. Everything was alright." I replied, smiling slightly at her concern. She smiled happily and skipped a little as we walked to our next class.
