Frozen in shock and fear, Jazmin watched as the mind flayer ripped into Billy. She didn't know what to do. She was stuck. Frozen. So, with no other choice, she watched as the mind flayer killed her best friend. Salty tears poured from her brown eyes. She let her tears flow, unable to hold them back as she watched the scene in front of her. The mind flayer fell shortly after dropping Billy, creating a loud banging noise that knocked Jazmin back into reality. It lay motionless and Jazmin knew that it was finally dead.

"Billy!" The girl sobbed, running toward Billys lifeless body. Max had made it there before her, crying and shaking the boy in an attempt to wake him up.  Jazmin immediately fell onto the malls hard floor, next to Max.

She couldn't believe he was gone. It didn't feel real. Billy was one of Jazmin's best friends. Sure it was unconventional but they always had each other. Billy confided in Jazmin, telling her things he's never told anyone. Things about his home life. Jazmin's heart broke for Billy, and even if he wasn't always the nicest person, he was always there for her. He wasn't fond of being seen in public with her as anything more than friends, but nevertheless, she still loved him.

She couldn't believe that they would never have that bond again. No more late-night drives with music blasting, no more sneaky hallway kisses where nobody could see. No more secret hangouts in her room.

She let her emotions take over her, laying her head on his cold chest. "No, no, no," she sobbed. "Please, no. Billy- oh my god." She cried harder, pulling him closer to her.

Max grabbed onto Jazmin's shoulders, and she reluctantly let Billy go. Max wrapped her arms around the girl as they both sobbed. Jazmin hugged Max tighter, promising herself that from now on she'll always protect her- no matter what.
