December 2026 London Sixth year of the end of the Great Purge
When the deadline to Sherlock and Irene's bet come, Sherlock indeed lost it. But to his surprise, Irene offered to change the terms of the bet.
The new one was to make John fall in love with him within six month, and the stakes would remain the same.
Sherlock narrowed his eyes, "Why?"
Shrugging, Irene replied, "I'm just curious, I never met someone who could turn down your offer."
"So how do I prove that he's in love with me."
"That's easy, I know it at a glance. Shall I have the honour to be the judge?"
"Very well, it is my honor to have you, an expert of love, to witness my victory." Sherlock held up his glass.
"I love your confidence, my dear Sherlock," Irene smiled sweetly.
Sally was worried about John, that Holmes the younger was everywhere. That was even more annoying than the freak.
At least the freak had loved John, and cherished him as the apple of his eye.
Despise how Sally dislike that freak, she had to admit, they were a pretty darn adorable couple.
When John first came to the crime scene along with that freak, Sally knew he was a good man. She tried to warn him off, out of the kindness in her heart.
As a result, John turned around and grab the freak by his ear, demanded if he was being obnoxious or talking nonsense again.
The freak kept complaining that he was completely innocent, but all he received was John's angry glare---he was not at all convinced.
Then, to everyone's horror, the freak lowered his head nuzzled John, whining that John didn't trust him.
John shoved him away, but almost instantly he went back cuddling with John. John shoved him off again and yelled at him to piss off.
Every one was stunned, that stuck-up, nasty freak was like a giant puppy in front of John.
Only the boss was as calm as ever, seemly was long since used to it.
But whenever the freak was in trouble, John was always there for him, he would even become a murder if it was for to keep the freak safe.
So as much as Sally disliked the freak, she never doubt that he was good.
Yet now, Holmes the younger, he made Sally shudder at the thought of him. Nothing would go right if he continue to pester John. Sally didn't quite think John could made it if he was broken again.
She told John her worries.
But John just smiled, and asked her what would boss do if he was in the same situation.
Sally admitted that she wasn't quite sure.
"He had looked ahead quicker than I do," John said softly, "He taught me never to regret what I gave, but to be grateful of what I got."
John looked at Sally, his eyes gleaming, "It took me so long to tell them apart, why shall I go back to where I start?" The road was too long, too dark and too painful, those who made it had long trade their flesh for steel. There was nothing in the world that could break their bone and steal their heart.
And John was one of them.
But of course, John was not immune to all those annoyance, no matter who it was, he hated the endless pestering.
