A Little History
Anna
A bemused expression settled on Cordelia's face when father said that. "Ah yes I do see the love in your eyes for Gwendolyn. I'm sure very soon in the future your daughters will have that." Cordelia said with a wicked smile. "Maybe at the capital perhaps."
Mother's grey eyes blazed with unmasked fury, "What are you getting at Cordelia?" "Well my Marshall never keeps secrets from his wife you know." Father gasped at her reply and instantly opened his mouth with a comeback.
"Mother please do not put your nose in things that aren't your business. People will be hurt by your actions." Corbyn said suddenly appearing in the room with Birch and Maple trailing close behind. "If anyone is hurt it will be from the lies that will soon be exposed." Cordelia said with a shrug of her slender shoulders. Mother stilled beside me.
"What are you guys talking about?" I questioned "Nothing that concerns you Anna and Cordelia I think its best we put this conversation to rest." Father sternly said. That was really weird and tense. I wonder what Cordelia meant by someone being hurt by hurt by lies. An uneasy feeling came over me what was going to happen once we reached the capital?
As if sensing my unease father placed a comforting arm around my shoulder and told me not to worry. Whispering in my ear that the whole point is to see grandmamma Magnolia before she passed. I heard Cordelia let out an unattractive snort. Following fathers request I pushed these unanswered to the back of my mind.
"Birch you told Phoebe to deliver breakfast to the sitting room today right." I didn't see Birch make any kind of verbal reply, but a pleased look on Cordelia's face told me she answered. "Maple go make sure Roderick has drunk his morning blood." Maple silently rose from her seat on the couch. I hadn't met Roderick yet, but I know he is the youngest child of this family.
As Maple was exiting Phoebe was entering with a cart that contained assorted breakfast foods. Corbyn raised an amused eyebrow at the hybrid girl. Phoebe sat the plates on the table and set fancy looking plates in front of each of us. She poured my family and me water in our glasses, but what I assume is blood in Corbyn and his families' glasses. Cordelia quickly chugged back her blood and motioned for Phoebe to refill.
Wasting no time she did just that, my family and I thanked her. "I thought I told you to warm my blood before you serve me?" "Uh Uh I did my lady. I made sure to I know because I checked." "Well you must didn't check well enough. Get out of my sight you filthy hybrid before you lose your job!" At that moment that moment Cordelia no longer looked beautiful and elegant. The look of pure disgust and hate on her face made her ugly. It was as if Phoebe were nothing but a vermin beneath her feet.
However Corbyn found the scene hilarious and bust out laughing. Phoebe ran out the room with unshed tears in her eyes. "Mother why are hybrids in the house?" Corbyn still chuckling at what just happened. "Because those filthy hybrids threatened to involve King Eren if we didn't offer them jobs." "Oh so this is why we have one in the house, but you hate hybrids. Besides what would King Eren have to say in this personal matter?" Corbyn asked
"I do hate those inbred creatures, but my dear husband, your father, thought it was best just to give in. You know King Eren passed a decree that Full Breeds can't deny hybrids jobs. It isn't his decision to decide who we want to work in our houses. But your father sympathizes with them so we compromised and allowed one to work for us."
"Why do you hate hybrids so much Miss Cordelia," Bella timidly asked breaking the conversation between mother and son. "Well hybrids are nothing but filthy wicked creatures and are no match for us higher ranking Full Breeds for years they've always tried to match our accomplishments. However they can't and never will and since they have discovered this fact they go crying to King Eren saying us Full Breeders discriminate against them. If anyone should be complaining it should be us Full Breeds because our people are a minority in this world. Excuse us for trying to preserve our culture."
Cordelia's tone told me she was dead serious about the way she felt against hybrids. Corbyn sighed and tiredly shook her head. "Mother would rather we go back thousands of years to a time were the mixing of supernatural species was seen as taboo. Were everyone stayed in their own groups and only associated in times of war and to make peace." Cordelia proudly shook her head agreeing with her son wholeheartedly. "But you must remember mother," a voice suddenly appeared in my head. "That those times were turmoil for us supernaturals because of human hate.
Humans? I heard that word before but I never knew what or who it was. "Correct because of human and supernatural wars we are where we are today." I saw Maple back in the room again so I assumed that was her talking in my head. "What is a human?" I asked breaking in like Bella. Corbyn, his mother, and sisters both turned and looked at me as if I was crazy.
"Anna you and your family would be considered humans in a historical context." Corbyn said matter of factly. I looked to mother and father for help and they looked as clueless as me. "Long ago all races were separate and no breeding with people outside your race was allowed. At this time things were far more developed in a technological sense and life was very different. Humans or purebloods in your case were on top and we supernaturals were below you in hiding.
Humans hated anything that looked or seemed different from them, so when supernaturals came out of hiding and revolted the Never-ending War happened. War was devastating against both sides and many lives were lost. Ours lands were destroyed and soon there was nothing left but dust and hate." Maple spoke without ever opening her mouth. I vaguely heard things about the Never-ending War, but I never knew it was a real thing. "It was a time before the mystics," father said suddenly speaking up.
Cordelia relieved face was happy that at least someone in our little family had some historical knowledge. "Exactly and before everything and everyone was finally wiped out the mystics came to save us from ourselves. They spoke of peace and acceptance and stayed among our ancestors until they felt everyone understood and adopted their message. When their mission was done they returned to the sky were they were said to have come from." Birch said finishing the explanation her twin started.
After our little history lesson we realized our breakfast had gone cold. "Phoebe get back in here!" Cordelia shouted "Yes my lady," Phoebe politely answered. "I need you to reheat all this back up, bring me and my children another cup of warmed blood leave the pitcher here, and check on Roderick while were waiting." She demanded of her hybrid maid. "Of course milady," was all Phoebe said in reply. She packed up the cart and pushed it out the room.
I got up racing after her "Were are you going young lady?" mother quickly asked. "To ask her where the bathroom is" I lied. Mother nodded and Corbyn gave me a knowing look. I wanted to talk to her and apologize go Cordelia's humiliating words against her.
