The lights warm up the ice cold, brick-walled room. Not much happiness to be sensed here. Strictly business.
Polished nails tap on the mahogany desk before her hands fold into each other.
"So, you said you needed my services?" The woman said with a sly grin on her face as she looked at the man in front of her.
"Yes, we need your services. And most importantly you need ours to get what you want." The man said and leaned back in his seat. He was well dressed and spoke with an accent only high-born would have.
The man placed his fingertips against each other as he watched the young woman in front of him.
"And.. How exactly am I in need of your services?" She asked, her eyes narrowed a little while her expression showed her surprise. Never before has she needed someone to achieve what she wanted. She took it, her way or the highway. No matter how long it took, she'd get there. You could say she was... Determined. And that was softly put.
"Well, if I recall, you have a few warrants out there. We can make those disappear without a problem. Once you finish the job, you can start fresh. Anywhere you like. Even retire? Perhaps?" The man questioned, his eyebrows raised while he looked at her.
"Like those warrants will be a problem for me. I can deal with them easily enough." She huffed and ran her fingers through her hair. Who was he to think she needed help to figure out her problems? No one's ever done it for her and no one will do it for her. She's always been taught to deal with it herself.
"I don't know which game you are playing, Maeve. But you're doing it with the wrong person. I won't ask for your service a second time, I'd hate to have to harm someone you care about." The man leaned forward and rests his arms in the table with his hands folded.
"What's her name again, Olivia?"
"Don't you dare say her name. She's got nothing to do with this." She snapped and glared at him. Maeve leaned bit more backwards when she saw the bodyguards take a step forward and pulled herself together. She took a deep breath before resuming.
"What is this job that you want done?"
"Have you ever heard of this police captain? Sean Renard?" The man asked.
"Of course I've heard of him. He's got a Grimm as a detective with a human sidekick. Tales go round about the Grimm."
"Right, then you are sort of familiar with him. You see, Sean is my cousin, unfortunately. And I need him gone. Dead, however you like to call it. He is being a problem to the family so he needs to be dealt with."
"How do you expect me to do this?" Maeve asked, not happy to hear that she has to deal with a Grimm.
"I do not care how you do it, as long as you get it done. We'll keep in touch about your progress." The man gestured and Maeve got up.
She gets escorted to the door before getting interrupted by the man behind the desk.
"Oh and Maeve, he musn't know that we gave you the order."
"Not to worry Viktor. Did you ever find out who previously hired me?" Maeve smirked and left the room. As soon as the door closed behind her she lets out a big sigh.
'What am I getting myself into?' She thought, it's not like she had a choice. She has to do this otherwise they'll hurt Olivia and that's the last thing that she wants to happen.
-
Maeve tidied her clothes as she looked at herself in the mirror, her long black hair draped over her collarbone and her blue eyes shining brightly in the sunlight.
"All good to go, let's hope this works out." Maeve ran her tongue across her upper teeth and winked at herself before making her way to the front door, picking up her leather jacket from the chair on her way there.
Maeve puts on her helmet and gets on her motorcycle, a vibrant red and black colored Kawasaki Ninja. Once she's all settled she starts the engine and drives off to the police station in Portland.
Her mind is overwhelmed with thoughts. What if they find out who she works for? And worse, what she is? Perhaps she'll never get close enough to Renard in order to execute her order. If she fails, she would never forgive herself with what would happen to Olivia. That little girl is only 4 years old and she's got a whole life ahead of her, it would be unfair for her to be stripped away from it.
If it were up to Maeve she'd give her own life for Olivia's.
Maeve shakes her head to get those thoughts out of her head. "Stop it. Don't think like that. You've never failed an assignment before, and you won't start now." She muttered to herself.
-
After a 15 minute drive, Maeve arrives at the police station. Though for her it felt like it took an eternity before she got there. Her heart rate shot up as soon as she laid eyes on the building.
"Here goes." She encouraged herself and entered the police station.
Maeve walks through the hallway with her helmet in her hand, her eyes immediately fall on the rather handsome Grimm. Chiseled jawline, dark brown hair and those eyes. Definitely something she could fall for. His sidekick would be standing there next to the Grimm.
The Grimm and his colleague would be talking to a man sitting on the desk, his back facing towards Maeve.
"Can I help you?" A police officer politely asks as he looks at Maeve. She looks at his name tag 'Sgt. Wu.'
"Yes, thank you Sergeant. Could you take me to Captain Sean Renard? I have an interview with him? For the new job position as detective?"
"Ah yes! Right this way...?"
"Maeve, Maeve Trix."
Sergeant Wu escorts Maeve towards the desk with the three gentlemen.
"Captain. Ms Trix is here for the interview."
The man turns his head and looks at Maeve. He gets up and takes his hands out of his pockets. He holds his hand out and Maeve shakes it.
"I'm Captain Renard. Pleasure to meet you Ms Trix. Shall we continue this in my office?"
"Yes of course, Mr Renard. Gladly." Maeve smiles sweetly at Sean and he let's out a small smile and a little huff.
"Right this way." Sean ties the buttons of his jacket before walking towards his office with Maeve behind him. He opens the door and let's Maeve in first, closing the door behind them.
