It's 7.00 am, the birds are tweeting peacefully outside. Until the alarm rudely interrupts their melody.Maeve groans softly and smacks the alarm clock to get it to shut up.
Maeve rubs the sleep out of her eyes and let's out a soft sigh. She throws her legs out of bed and gets up. She goes ahead and opens her curtains, it's a beautiful day actually.
She slips her clothing on and does a quick braid in her hair. "All good to go." Maeve smiles at herself and makes her way into the kitchen.
Maeve opens the door of the fridge and peeks inside. Damnit, no left over for breakfast and there wasn't really anything to prepare some quick breakfast with.
"Guess I'll have to pass by the bakery." Maeve mutters to herself and closes the fridge door. She grabs her leather jacket and her helmet from the chair in the kitchen and leaves her apartment, pulling the door shut behind her.
"Good morning Ms Trix!" An elderly female waves at Maeve as she passes by.
"Morning Mrs Caputo! Have a nice day!" Maeve smiles and waves back, she took a liking to the owner of the apartments. She was that typical sweet elderly female that everyone loved.
Maeve puts her helmet on and drives to the precinct. She arrives about ten minutes early, wanting to make a good impression to make sure she can keep the job to finish her assignment.
"You're surely early." Wu says as he sees Maeve walk in.
"Early? I thought it was normal to come in a bit early considering you have to set up for the day."
"Others could definitely learn from you." Wu answers, though he seems unimpressed.
"Where are detective Burkhardt and detective Griffin?" Maeve asks, grabbing some tea from the machine.
"They should be here any minute." Wu leaves while holding some dossiers.
Maeve shrugs and sips from her tea.
"Please excuse my sergeants behavior." A voice suddenly speaks up behind Maeve. It startling her and she spills some tea on herself. She turns around only to look Sean straight in the eye. His hands are in his pockets as he stands a bit leaned forward, his typical stance.
"I didn't mean to startle you." Sean grabs some napkins and quickly hands him to her.
"No.. No it's okay. Don't worry about it." Maeve rubs the napkins on the spilled tea on her chest.
"Did you hurt yourself? The tea still seems to be piping hot." Sean asks a bit worried, he definitely didn't intend for this to happen.
"I can be clumsy at times so I'm used to it. It's sweet that you're worried though." Maeve let's out a slight giggle and throws the napkins away.
Sean exhales relieved.
"About your sergeant?" Maeve asks
"Oh, yes. He's a good guy, you just have to get used to him. If he seems a bit stand-off-ish, don't take it personal. He's just not impressed by newcomers until they prove themselves. Especially when they will be working with Nick and Hank."
"It's okay, I'm used to being judged before they even know me. Makes me want to prove myself even more."
"That's good to hear. Nick and Hank have some paperwork to do. In the meantime you can read through old case files they had to get an idea what kind of cases they deal with. It's not for the faint of heart, so be warned."
"I'm sure I can handle it. I've seen plenty." Sean looks questioning at her and Maeve realizes she talked ahead of herself. "Because I've seen a lot of horror movies. And I watch plenty of videos explaining murder cases."
"Ah. Yes. If you can come with me, I'll show you where the files are. In case you want to look through some more."
Maeve nods and follows Sean into the case file registry. The room is filled with scaffolding. Case files displayed neatly, divided under three categories: solved, running, cold-case.
Sean grabs a few case files from the solved scaffold and holds them out to Maeve. Because the room is full of scaffolding, there wasn't much room to stand, Maeve would stand in close enough proximity of Sean that it could be considered intimidate.
"Thank you.. Captain." Maeve gently brushes her hand 'accidentally' along Sean's hand as she takes the files from him. There was a slight hint of seduction lingering in her voice which sparked an interest in Sean.
Maeve turns around and walks out of the room, taking a seat at her own desk before diving into the case files she got handed.
Sean swallows, still a bit baffled by the situation that just occurred. She didn't touch him on purpose right? No of course she didn't. She didn't seem like the type of person who'd try to seduce every guy.
But she did have that lingering tone.. Sean shakes his head gently and walks out of the room, closing the door behind him. He glances at Maeve who was completely sucked into the file she was reading, he looks away and walks to his office.
Before he enters, he glances at Maeve once again before finally entering.
Nick and Hank walk in, side by side.
"Good morning Maeve." Nick says as he stands at her desk. Hands in his pockets.
No response from Maeve, it's almost as if she's in her own bubble.
"Maeve?" Nick waves his hand in front of her and Maeve perks up.
"Ohh Detective. Sorry, I was so focused on reading that I didn't hear you. Good morning. Had a good night's rest?"
Nick chuckles softly.
"Yes most definitely. And don't worry about it. So I see you're reading up on our old cases?"
"Yes. The captain thought it would be good to let me read them so I can get an impression of what kind of cases I'll be dealing with when working with you two."
"I think that's a good preparation for what's to come." Hank agrees, his phone rings on his desk and he walks towards it. Picking it up and listening.
"We're on our way."
"Nick, we have a body in a hotelroom." Hank announces.
"Alright, let's get started." Nick nods and Maeve gets taken with him and Hank to the hotel.
