There's just something about Arielle that just takes my mind off of smoking. The way she just radiates kindness. Before I really got to know her I never really thought about getting into the christian faith.

I thought all christian's were judgmental weirdos who believes that a person is living in the sky.

But she showed me different Arielle isn't judgmental at all, in fact I was the one doing the judging which I'm not proud of.

She's forgiving and kind in most ways people aren't. And she makes me want to be that person. She makes me want to be a better version of myself to become the best role model I could for my little sister.

So I guess just maybe I could consider believing in God.

But I don't know how to start. So maybe this church camp thing was the best opportunity.

........

Today was the weekend. After a long week of school and football practice I could finally rest, until Arielle knocks on my door finding a way to ruin my day. But i couldn't even complain she had me so whipped I didn't even mind what she was about to tell me. Woah, I didn't even know she had me whipped. I really just admitted that.

"Layden we got to get working on this project. We haven't really done anything." She says.

Then adds, " Also I want to let you know that I made sure to drop Lailah off at her sleepover."

"Ok great, I guess we should start then." I say not really wanting to. I mean come on, school work on a weekend. Who does that?

After hours of typing and looking at a computer screen I had to get up and stretch.

"El, I'm tired, can we call it quits for today?" I say begging her in my best puppy eyes. No one can resists these babies.

"Ok fine." she's says taking a deep breath then putting her pen down.

"Let's do something I'm bored." I say.

"Like what?" She questions.

"Idk let's just do something." I say.

"I have an idea, usually on saturday's I volunteer at a nursing home, to get my hours in and because it's fun." She says.

"Really? A nursing home?" I say in disbelief.

"Come on just try it with me." She responds.

"The things you make me do." I say getting and grabbing my keys.

About 30 mins later we arrived to the nursing, and wow there was old people everywhere.

Arielle and I walk out the car, and head inside where we meet with the receptionist.

"Oh hello, are you guys here to volunteer?" the lady asks.

"Yes we are." Arielle says with one of her pretty smiles.

"Ok my name is Kristine, and i'll be showing you guys who you'll be assisting." She says as she gets up from the chair and walks out the office.

"Ok." Arielle says and I just follow.

We walk down a hallway and then she takes us in a room.

"Alright young man, and you'll be assisting Meredith today." Kristine says as she points to the old lady.

"Alright, young lady come with me i'll show you who your assisting." She says to Arielle.

"Wait she's leaving?" I ask not wanting to be left alone.

"It's fine I'll be back." Arielle says and with that they walk out of the room and leave me alone with the old lady.

"Hello young sir, aren't you a handsome one." She says smiling.

"Thank you Ms. Meredith." I respond sitting in a chair.

"Oh just call me Meredith, you make me feel too old." She's laughing, I also laugh at her joke.

"So what's your name boy?" She asks.

"Um my name is Layden." I respond.

"Beautiful name. Would you mine grabbing that book on the top shelf for me" she says.

"Yea no problem." I say heading over to grab it for her.

"You know you remind me of my husband, John. He was a military man." She says.

"What happened to you husband?" I ask curiously.

"Oh he died from cancer, 4 years ago. He was great soul and he was a pastor also." She responds.

"Oh i'm sorry that happened I couldn't imagine losing someone I love." I say trying to be sympathetic.

"It's fine God has a plan for everything." She responds.

"Wait, you still believe in God even after you lost someone you love so much?" I ask.

"Of course why wouldn't I?" Meredith says.

"Well, If it were me I'd be pretty angry at God." I say.

"Well i can't be angry, because of my faith I know my husband is in a better place, a place far away from this cruel cruel world. And one day I hope to be there with him." She says.

She then adds, "even the bible says good people die, and no one understands or even cares. But when they die, no calamity can hurt them."

"Wow, I never thought about that way. " I say.

"Nobody ever does, it's always go straight to hating God but remember this God, sometimes have to make bad things happen so you can find the good in the situation." She says.

"What kept you from going insane all these years?" I ask.

"My life verse. Which is the pain you are feeling cannot be compared to the joy that is coming roman's 8:18" She says.

"I can tell you have a lot of questions about Christianity Layden, so ask away and i'll answer them all, I'm guessing you're trying to figure out if you want believe or not." She adds.

"Yes you're completely right." I respond.

We spent the next hour talking and I learned a lot of new things. I learned about the bible and stuff I never knew about christianity, she helped me.

An hour later

Arielle opens the door to find us talking.

"Uh hey El we were kinda in the middle of talking." I say

"It's ok we were just finishing up, I can't give the answer to whether you should find faith in Jesus or not,  only your heart can make that decision for you." Shes says patting my back.

"Nice talking with you Layden." She says.

"Thank you for everything Meredith." I say giving her a hug.

After Arielle and I walk out

"See I told you it wasn't that bad." She says.

"Yea you were right like always." I say as we both laugh.

"So are you going to tell me what you guys were talking about." She asks.

"No but I can tell you this, I think i'm ready for this church camp." I say.

"Heck yea." She says
