Chapter 4

Nicki's POV

Kyle and I cautiously and quietly made our way to where we heard the scream. When we made our way upstairs, I couldn't believe what we were seeing. Mum was pointing a gun to Dad's head, with her finger hovering over the trigger.

"Shoot me, bitch."

Mum didn't say anything, I knew she wasn't capable of killing him, but the bad thing was, maybe he did, too. It had only been a few minutes since I called the cops and the sirens were wailing in the distance, but Mum continued to point the gun at him.

Time seemed to be passing in slow motion. It took years for the police to get here. I was already running for the front door, dragging Kyle along behind me, with Dad hot on our tail, steaming with fury. Mom was behind him, too. She was still holding the gun.

I watched as they took my dad away.

I was happy he was gone, but still worried. I was worried that we were going to go broke. Dad has no chance of getting out of prison, and it's not like we can bail him out, not that we would. It's probably better this way. But, with my medical bills and everything we'll defiantly go broke, no doubt about it.

"Nicki, why don't you go heat up the pizza in the fridge for dinner while I try to clean up this mess?" Mum said after the cops were done interviewing us and checking out our house for any more evidence.

"Alright" I say, relived that this is over, for tonight at least.

*End of flashback*

Nathan's POV

*Back to after school*

Kenzie was kissing Josh?

My best friend and my girlfriend were kissing!? I can't believe it!

The girl that I've always regretted dating is now cheating on me with my best friend. I was in pure shock. Maybe it was because she was so clingy that I couldn't believe she was cheating on me. She just seemed so... so into me! Maybe it was my fault, though. I haven't been hanging out with her in a long time, and I can't remember the last time we actually had a real conversation. But, what can I do? It's been really tough at home lately. With our lack of money, my mum always losing her job or can't get one, the robbery from earlier today, then there's also my mum going out to bars which only makes it harder.

Fuming with rage, I storm inside and just stand next to their table, impatiently tapping my foot with my arms crossed.

Kenzie smiles a josh then looks up at me, the smile on her face immediately turning into a smirk, and then vanishing all together. Her brain registers who it is that's standing in front of her and she starts to panic, her face turning red.

"I- I can explain" She stutters.

"I'd like to hear this." At that moment, josh decides to get up and run out of the parlor, not even looking back.

Kenzie breaks down into tears, running out of the door after him.

People are starting to stare, so I just sit down at a random table and think. It feels like a huge weight has just been lifted off my shoulders, because I know that that was the end to our relationship thankfully.

I sat there for a few long minutes lost in my thoughts, when I saw the ginger headed girl with her brown haired brother walk into the pizza parlor door on my right. Nicki and her brother didn't even look at me; they just went to the cashier.

I didn't know where else to go and I wasn't in a mood to go after Kenzie so I decided to go and talk to Nicki, wish me luck.

"Hi, Nicki" I say awkwardly.
