Chapter 6

Nathan's POV

I walked into the school building. Everyone either ignored me, shot daggers at me or whispered. I guess everyone already knows about the incident between Kenzie and I. I can't blame everyone for taking her side, after all, she did have the lead role in the school play last month so she could defiantly put on a good show.

I slowly made my way to my locker, feeling worthless and small. Everyone stopped talking and just glared at me when I passed. Except Nicki. She hardly even acknowledged me when I said hi, so I just continued walking to my locker.

Unfortunately, a member of Kenzie's clique had a locker two spaces to the left of mine. I hardly remember her name. I think it ended with 'ina'. Sabrina? Melina? I have no idea, but wow. If looks could kill.

"Listen Nate, I'm sorry about me and Kenzie. She kissed me!" I heard a familiar voice from behind me.

I didn't even have to look to know it was Josh.

"Josh, I don't need your excuses. Whether it was Kenzie that kissed you or vise versa, I was close to both of you and I expect more than my girlfriend cheating on me with my best friend" I say slamming my locker and turning my back to Josh. I can hear him shouting my name but I keep walking.

My first period of the day was math class with Mrs. Bender. I drop my things down on a random desk near the back of the class, well away from the gossip-hungry group that were currently in a deep conversation about what lipgloss Melissa Grove wore to Stacy's party.

Minutes later the entire class was already swarming around the room talking.

"Take your seats everyone," Mrs. Bender said as she walked in.

The first half of the day went by slowly and after French I was finally at lunch.

Nicki's POV

Great, lunchtime. I can feel someone's glare burning into the back of my head. I start to turn around but before I could I had a perfectly manicured hand clutching my chin with it's fingers in either side of my face.

"Listen up, because I'm only saying this once," the one and only, Kenzie Hampton said, her voice nothing but a high-pitched scowl.

I rolled my eyes, clearly annoyed. "Okay, carry on" I said. By this time Kenzie's hand was right back on her hip.

"Leave. Nathan. Alone." She said. By this time a crowd was surrounding us so that left me with no escape option.

"Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!" The crowd chanted.

We both ignored the crowd and focused on each other. Wow, Kenzie really knows how to intimidate her prey. "What about him? We were best friends, you and your gang of skanks stole him away. Now your cheating on him. What else is there to say?" I reply, surprising myself with the amount of confidence my voice had.

"I'm a skank? Look at yourself honey, you are in high school and still aren't over what happened in the sixth grade. You think Nathan is gonna come back to you but he just thinks your a desperate little bitch who was to clingy and had no soul."

Ouch.

Kenzie smirked and raised a perfectly plucked eyebrow at me and waited for my answer.

I opened my mouth to speak but I was interrupted by a loud "Hey! What do you kids think you're doing?" Coming from the mouth of Mr. Martin. "Is this a fight I see?" He questioned.

The fight was blamed on someone else, thankfully. And everyone went back to their usual lunch places while was yet to buy my lunch. I slipped into the last place in line and pulled out my iPhone. The line moved fairly quickly and before I knew it I was ordering my food.

Mr. Morgan rambled on about the revolutionary war while zoned out and stared at the clock above his head.

"Miss Harper do you have anything to add?" He says with a smug look in his face. He knows that I wasn't paying attention.

"Uhh..." I begin. Ten seconds left of the school day, I can do this. "Well, the revolutionary war was... A very difficult time..." 7...6...5 "And the soldiers that fought..." 3...2...1. There was the ring of the bell that indicated the school day was finally over. To be honest, I know next to nothing about the revolutionary war. No-scratch that. I know nothing.

Kyle's POV

Today was Nikki's appointment with Dr.Woodman. As far as she knew she was taking me to my dentist, which was in the same building.

"Nikki, we're going to be late! Are you ready?" I yelled from downstairs.

"Yeah, just a minute!" Nicki yelled back.

A few minutes later we were in the car on our way to the appointment. Nicki has her learner's permit, so as long as there was an adult in the car (there wasn't) we were safe.

We pulled into the parking lot and I stepped out of the car.

"C'mon, lets go" she said.

Nicole Harper, Dr.Woodman is waiting for you. The receptionist, Lily said from the front desk.

Nikki's POV

Did she say my name? I must have heard wrong. There could be another Nicole in the room. I crane my neck around and look around the room. We were the only ones here.

"Miss Harper?" The lady says again looking at me.

I look to Kyle for an explanation and he looks guilty.

"Sorry Nikki,I had to. This was the only way." Kyle whispered.

I sit in my place for a few minutes until I realize it was pointless and I may as well go in.

I stood up and followed the extremely impatient and annoyed receptionist inside.

The room smelled like pine, and there was beautiful dark wood floor and cabinets full of books. The rays of light peeked through the red velvet curtains. The room was almost empty, except for a big desk with a large chair behind and in front of it, and a small reading nook with three chairs equally as large. There was a record player sitting on a small table in the corner softly playing old sonygs by The Beatles.

Someone cleared their throat, and I snapped my head towards the desk.

"Good evening Nicole, I'm Dr. Woodman. I will be your psychologist for the next two months." The woman said with a warm smile.
