Summary:

Using scent suppressants was the norm. Then why was Yoongi's new alpha neighbour exposing his scent in the air like that? And why did he like it so much? Maybe it'd be easier if Yoongi wasn't so wary of alphas, or if Taehyung didn't make his heart skip a beat every time he looked at him.

It had been a productive day at work, Yoongi had made major progress on the design of a new building, and he was happy that this particular project was going so smoothly, since that wasn't always the case. But in that moment, he just wanted to take a relaxing bath, trade his work clothes for comfortable pajamas, and just have a good meal.

He was in his own head, thinking about what he'd have to eat, when the elevator door opened, he didn't even have time to look properly at the person in front of him when it hit him. The scent. And it wasn't any scent, it was distinctively someone's scent.

Yoongi then looked at a man, eyes darting to his messy dark hair, elegant nose, and the white blouse he wore exposing his graceful collarbones. The man was incredibly handsome, but Yoongi couldn't really focus on that because that strange guy was clearly exposing his scent, meaning that he wasn't on scent suppressants.

The stranger man glanced at him for a moment that felt like an eternity for Yoongi, just the both of them staring at each other. He then greeted Yoongi politely with a mid bow, and passed by him with a knowing smile. Yoongi wondered what was funny, but he didn't think he could talk in that moment.

The door started to close and that's when Yoongi noticed that he was on his floor. Trying his best to look unaffected, even if he knew his surprise was evident, he hurried before the door closed completely, leaving the man and his scent behind. His heart beating loudly in his chest, for a reason Yoongi didn't understand.

Once he was in his own apartment, he could still feel the guy's scent wrapping around him. Lavender. It was soft and soothing, pleasant to be around, yet it was so strange to him. He felt like he was intruding. Scents were supposed to be personal, that was why blockers existed.

The last time Yoongi met people that weren't on scent suppressants was back in college, and even then it was weird to him.

It was well known that, in the past, scents were the instigator of multiple incidents, that's how scent blockers started to slowly become the norm. Eventually, any wolf traits started to dwindle out. They were considered archaic and obsolete. Omegas would get their heats two or three times a year, but alphas didn't go into rut anymore, since alpha's traits were considered the most dangerous.

It was a change well received by people, and even though there were a select few that were opposed to it, Yoongi hadn't met anyone personally. Yet that strange man didn't seem to mind having his scent out in the open like that, and it was surprising to Yoongi, especially because he noticed that the man was an alpha. The slight yellow glint in his eyes when he looked at him gave it away.

Once he cooked something quick and put on his pajamas, Yoongi did a poor job at trying to forget the man he saw. He was curious. Who was that man? He'd never seen him before in the building. Was he someone's guest? It was the most reasonable option. But he quickly remembered that a few days ago he saw a bunch of boxes outside the apartment next door. Could it be? Was that stranger his new neighbour?

It wasn't a big deal really, but the thing was, Yoongi's family was very traditional. His parents taught him how to conceal his inner wolf since he was little. Doyun, his omega father, would always scold him when he let himself be scented by friends or scented his friends himself. He gently explained that scents would be upsetting for some people, and that was true, but was it always like that?
