Present Day~
" The wolf prince let out a blood- curdling howl, singing of his pain, and guilt." I said in a whimsical voice. The twins I'm babysitting lay on their beds with their brown eyes wide open, and jaws on the ground. The sound of a car, alerts me of their parents' arrival.
" Well, kids it's been fun. I'll read another story next time, 'Kay ?" I say getting up and kissing each of their heads.
" Ok,RiRi" one twin yawns.
" Sure, Riley."
Picking up the leather bound book of tales, I make my way downstairs.
" Hello, Mr. And Mrs. Johnson . The boys were awesome. And are fed, bathed, and in bed." I tell the twins' parents.
" Oh, thank you so much Riley-dear! Here's your money. Good night, hun." Mrs. Johnson says, handing me a few bills.
" Thank you, just call when you need me, okay? Bye!" I say walking out to my canary-yellow Mini Cooper, that I named Tweety.
Hopping in I drive to my small cabin home where I live with my mom. The long winding road twist, and ominous dark green blurs as I drive. My mind wonders to the story I read to the kids, ' I wonder why it just ended there, eh, it's an old book. The ending probably got lost in translation, or something.'
I then start blasting music, and start singing along to
" Bleeding Out" by Imagine Dragons.
"I'm bleeding out
So if the last thing that I do
Is to bring you down
I'll bleed out for you
So I bare my skin
And I count my sins
And I close my eyes
And I take it in
And I'm bleeding out
I'm bleeding out for you"
BA-DUNK!
' Oooh , that didn't sound nice...'
Stopping Tweety immediately, I get out of the car and look behind it. A fluffy, growling, black furball lay in a trembling heap. The sting of tears came to my eyes, " Oh no no no, please don't be hurt. Please... Please."
Grabbing a blanket that I keep in my trunk I slowly make my way towards the animal.
" Shh, Hun , shhh, s'all okay." I say more to myself than to the creature. " I'm just goin' to put this blanket on you okay?"
All I received was a low grunt. Taking that as a yes I drop the blanket onto the animal. Its eyes were closed, but it was panting a little. Taking that as a good sign, I call the nearest vet, I knew of... Who was, coincidentally, my mom.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
" Er, hey Mom." I say my voice a few octaves too high.
" What did you do now?" She replies immediately .
" Why do you assume that I did something, huh?" I ask pseudo-innocently.
" ' Cause you sound like a chipmunk" I imagine her cocking one eyebrow, a skill that I don't possess no matter how hard I try.
" Uh, well, I kinda- sorta ranoverananimalbymistake." I say the last part quickly.
" WHAT?" She yells, nearly blowing out my eardrum.
" It's still breathing, though!" I say hurriedly.
" Ok, get it in to your car, now."
" Ok, ok." I say while opening my door and pulling my seat down.
I hang up quickly and make my slow procession to the wounded animal. Raising my hands up , I coo soothing words to the black mass of fur. " It's ok I'm not going to hurt you."
My reply back was a low groan.
About half a step away from the creature it opens it's eyes a tiny bit. I gasp peering into the bright, almost glowing pools of cobalt. At my intake of breath its eyes widen, and it raises its head a little bit. Its head was considerably large with a long snout, and wet black nose. It had two furry triangular ears perched atop its head, swiveling at sounds no doubt unnoticeable to the human ear.
I close that half step gap and place my hands on the creature I now recognize as a wolf. I run my fingers up and down its body checking for anything out of place. Then, my fingers hit a cool cord-like thing around its neck. Brushing back its fur a little, the cord turns out to be a gold twisted vine. Raising the wolf's head with little protest, I see a white chrysanthemum entwined with the vine. The whole vine seems to glow a little, seemingly ethereal. So, right now I'm basically freaking out inside, this wolf matches the one in my book! Shaking it off, I turn to the wolf.
" Ok, wolf I'm going to try to lift you, and it may hurt a bit. So no snapping at me, got it?" I whisper the animal.
Surprisingly I get a curt nod from the creature puzzling me even further. Grabbing the blanket, and wrapping it securely around the wolf, I place my hands on the underside of the wolf. I try to lift it, and get a high keening sound from the wolf.
" Oh! I'm sorry, so sorry, bet this'll hurt a bit." I say trying to soothe it. Realizing it's too heavy for me to carry, I settle for unwrapping the blanket and pulling it under the wolf. Then, I drag the poor animal to my car by pulling on the sturdy blanket.
" Ok, now I need you to get up and climb in." I tell the animal as if it understands me, while motioning it to get in. To my utter confusion, it gets up and limps into my mini's backseat. It then plops down and looks at my shocked face, as if telling me to get a move on. Laying the blanket on the wolf,I put my seat back up. I hop into my car quickly, and drive the rest of the way home.
