Iris sat reading her favorite book in the window nook in her room. This was often the spot she sat to read. She was wearing a comfy tan sweater her mom got her for Christmas last year. It was too big for her and went past her kneecaps, but Iris insisted on keeping it and would often wear it as loungewear. Tomorrow would be her first day of her junior year of high school. She was happy to see her best friend, Caleb, again and her other friends, Ren, Mazie, and Nia. Iris looked back from her book to check the alarm clock on her bedside table. It was 10:50 pm. Iris sighed, "I guess I better go get some rest for tomorrow." She grabbed her bookmark and put it in the book where she left off. She then closed the book and laid it in the window nook, stood up and went over to her alarm and set it for 8:00 am. She got up early enough to go get Caleb, who, though a junior like her, still doesn't own a car even though he can drive. This is because he "wants to spend as much time with Iris as possible before they graduate." But in reality, it's just because he doesn't want to ask his step-dad or mom to buy one and surely won't ask his step-dad to borrow the black truck. Despite the fact that he hasn't used it since getting his new red one, that's not Caleb's personality. Caleb had better just be glad he only lives a few minutes down the road from Iris.
Suddenly, Iris heard meowing from outside her door. Iris sighed; it was her calico cat, Honey. Iris, "Honey, you can't come in." Honey, as if to say she didn't care, started meowing louder. Iris sighed, "Fine, crazy cat! Iris went to her door and opened it. Honey walked in and jumped up on Iris' bed and laid down on the edge of the bed. Iris rolled her eyes. "You're welcome, your majesty." Iris then closes the door. Then she sat on her bed and petted Honey a bit, then got under the covers, sighed, and said, "Deer Valley High, get ready for the junior year of Iris Foster."
