The two detectives came into work a little late that morning, sleeping a little past their alarms. Kim was discharged that morning, which meant that Adam was helping her settle back at her place. Kevin was dropping Makayla off at school, which meant he would also be late. Voight was at a meeting at headquarters, which meant it was only Hailey and Jay at the moment. They decided to work on paperwork, from the Roy Walton case, going back all the way to the abduction and murder of the Deputy Superintendent's son. While Jay went through his paperwork quite quickly, Hailey felt lost. She didn't know what to say, what to leave out. Should she tell the truth? Should she incriminate herself and possibly Voight?

She was interrupted by the sound of the gate being buzzed and Ruzek and Atwater walking up the stairs.

"Hey, you two," Ruzek greeted.

"Hey, guys," Jay replied, not looking up from his computer. "You're late!"

"Well, it took some time for me to get Kim settled back at her place."

"Yeah, and after I dropped Makayla off at school, I needed to help Ruze get Burgess settled back at her place."

Jay rolled his eyes while Haley laughed, both still focused on the computer screens.

"But it doesn't look like we missed a whole lot." Ruzek motioned to the empty bullpen. "Where's Voight?"

"Meeting at headquarters. No idea when he'll be back."

"Well, then I should have stayed a few more hours with Kim."

"Doing what?" Jay questioned, finally looking at the two officers.

"Helping Kim get settled in her place, of course."

Jay smirked. "Mhmm" They continued to work on their paperwork, Jay finishing first, followed by Kevin. Adam was distracted on his phone the entire time, he barely got one page done, and Hailey would get to a particular part in her report and not know what to put next.

Around noon, the gate buzzed, and in walked Voight, wearing his formal uniform and a blazer thrown over his shoulder. "Great, you are all here." He said, stopping at the top of the stairs. "I know the past couple of days has been tough. Kim is alright now, so we have to move forward. You guys can finish your reports from the previous case today, but tomorrow we are assigned a new case by Superintendent Crawford. He wants Intelligence to take the lead on the carjackings happening downtown. So get your reports into me by the end of the day." He walked towards his office, but before he could close the door, Adam interrupted him.

"Wait Sarge, what about Roy?"

"What about him?" Voight asked.

"Are we not gonna look for him, I mean he shot Kim and she almost died..."

Voight yelled. "But she didn't." The bullpen went silent. Nobody dared to speak against Voight right now. Hailey kept her head low, not wanting to attract any attention, but Jay noticed how tense she got. Voight sighed. "Look, we have been after Roy for almost a week now, but we still have no leads, so it's possible he fled the country."

"That's not possible." All eyes turned towards Adam. "We know that Kim was shot by Roy six hours before we found her, so he may be lying low in Chicago."

"Adam, six hours is plenty of time for someone to flee the country. He could have got on a private plane and escaped border patrol." Before Adam could argue back, Voight stopped him. "All that matters is that Kim is safe. Where Roy is hiding is not our problem anymore. Homicide has the case, so it's their issue now. All you have to worry about is the carjacking that Crawford assigned Intelligence to. So get started on that case." And with that, he walked into his office and slammed his door shut, leaving everyone in silence.
