Despite Draco's promise to not let Umbridge hurt Greta, he accepted Umbridge's offer to join her Inquisitorial Squad. He couldn't help but feel obliged to obey any order given by a Hogwarts professor, even if he didn't like them. However, he made a silent vow with himself to keep Greta out of any future trouble with Umbridge, knowing that she was already on the Professor's bad side. To make sure that things didn't get out of hand, he didn't tell Greta.
Meanwhile, Greta and most of the other students were starting to get frustrated with Umbridge. She refused to teach them any magic spells that could be of use when defending themselves against Voldemort. They also knew that the annoying professor had something to do with the nasty rumors about Harry that had been spreading around.
This woman had to be stopped.
"We're forming a secret organization called Dumbledore's Army," Hermione informed Greta.
"A secret organization? What'll we do in it?" Greta frowned.
"We'll just be practicing Defense Against the Dark Arts. Nothing too weird. You should join, Greta, really."
"I-I'm not sure it'll be a good idea. What if we get caught?"
"We won't. We'll be hidden in the Room of Requirement. Nobody will ever find us there."
Greta had to take some time to think about joining Dumbledore's Army, but eventually agreed. She was an official member.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione were all in charge, leaving Greta out entirely. She was their friend, right? Why couldn't she lead alongside with them? She would've preferred having Hermione working with her, but Ron ended up stepping in and constantly correcting her movements without hesitation, which only dropped her self-confidence by a lot. Overall, Greta wasn't having the best time. She would've said something about it, but one glance at the scar on her left hand changed everything. Draco may have told her that her opinions mattered, but she couldn't think of one moment when he had to keep silent. He was the school bully for crying out loud! He wouldn't understand her situation at all.
She even felt worse whenever she and Draco spent time together. She knew that Draco was a prefect, and being a part of Dumbledore's Army was against the rules. She just couldn't tell him! He would have no choice but report her and that would just make him feel bad.
It was all just a big mess.
One night, Greta left practice early to go clear her mind. As she roamed the halls of the empty school, she felt so small and alone. It reminded her of all her past feelings of sadness that clouded her mind, but she had always been able to push those aside. That is, until now. Ever since the incident with Umbridge, those thoughts had suddenly come back stronger, and she was scared that everything would go downhill for her later on.
What am I going to do? I can't tell Draco or my friends. They would only baby me and make me feel even more worthless. Plus, I don't even have much reason to be sad, so they wouldn't even feel much sympathy anyway--
"Hey, Greta."
Draco's soothing voice filled the hallway, interrupting Greta's thought process.
Greta waved at him with her right hand. "Hi."
"You wanna go hang out somewhere?" Draco seemed more shy than usual. It was oddly adorable.
"Yeah, I'd love to." Greta flashed a small smile to try and avoid any possible questions from Draco.
The astronomy tower was a popular hideout of theirs, and it was the place chosen for tonight's rendezvous. Draco and Greta cuddled side-by-side against the wall.
