Paden

When I open my eyes, I smiled from ear to ear. We were in Hyler's room. She did it, she actually teleported us. When I looked at her I noticed her eyes were still closed. I laughed and kissed her forehead. "I did it right? It worked?" I titled my head and whispered in her ear, "Open your eyes and find out." She did slowly. She looked around astonished like she'd never seen her room before. "I can't believe it. That was the first time I did that, I was kind of expecting to explode somehow." My eyes went wide, "Well, good thing that didn't happened." "Paden, I'm at my fourth gift. I'm so close! My mom's going to-" She paused. "My mom..." That was the last thing she said before sprinting out of the room with me hot on her trail. When we got to the lobby is was an utter mess and it was completely trashed. "Oh Hyler..." I mumbled as we looked around. "Hello?!?" Yelled Hyler. "Is anybody here? Hello?!?" There was no one. It was complete silence. "Where is everyone?" Hyler murmured. "They're all gone." We whirled around at the voice behind us. It was Kelsie. Hyler ran up to her and kneeled down. She held her hands and asked, "Gone where?" "To try to save our fearless leader." "By themselves?" I asked with horror on my face. Kelsie nodded. "Why were you left here by yourself?" "To help you Hyler." Hyler cocked her head to the side, "Help me do what exactly?" Kelsie sighed, "Help you try to reach your fifth gift. I mean I have to try, all this is happening because of my big mouth anyway. I put too much in to Zane, and he didn't deserve it. I'm sorry Hyler. " Hyler kissed her head and said, "It's okay Kelsie. Your young, and people make mistakes. Now exactly how are you going to help me?"

She led Hyler down to the floor and sat across each other on the carpet. "Close your eyes." Kelsie said in a calming voice as Hyler looked at me. I shrugged at her as Hyler smiled at me and turned her head back forward. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Kelsie took a deep breath and closed her eyes as well. "Breathe deeply in and out, continuously. Your powerful Hyler, feel your power. It's inside you, you just got to want it bad enough. Feel it rising inside of you." They were silent for a few minutes, until Hyler groaned. "Ugh. Kelsie, I'm sorry, but this isn't working for me." She opened her eyes and stood as Kelsie did the same. "Our people are probably in trouble right now and this isn't helping them or my mother. We need to go... now." "They said they were going to wait for you, before announcing their presence." Hyler rolled her eyes, "Of course they were. It's smart. I just hope they don't get caught." Hyler glanced over to me and I nodded at her. I guess it didn't take long for us to become completely in sync mentally. I headed for the door as Hyler turned back to Kelsie. "We're going. Stay here and hold the fort down, okay?" She nodded and they hugged. When Hyler pulled away Kelsie grabbed her arm. "Hyler, I'll keep hope alive for you." Hyler gave her a look, "What do you—" She ran a hand through her hair and finished her sentence. "You know what's going to happen, don't you?" Tears started to run down Kelsie's face. "Is someone going to die?" Hyler asked as her voice broke. "Lose and gain Hyler, lose and gain. Good luck." Kelsie let go and walked upstairs.

Being underground was gross and smelly. Apparently this is really how the downers live. I couldn't stand it... I can't stand it right now. Me and Hyler walked through the sewers as stealthy as you could in a sewer. I had to hold my nose to keep from gagging. Surprisingly Hyler looked fine and completely focused. "How are you not getting sick right now?" I said through my hand. She looked at me and rolled her eyes, "I guess I have a higher tolerant level than you. Plus, I've been down here before." I nodded as she stopped and looked to her right. "This way." She said as we ventured forward. When we got closer we started to hear noises. Voices actually, kind of like chanting. We hit a dead end as Hyler motioned for me to get down. I did as we peered over an edge. I saw how high we actually were I started to feel dizzy. Down below us were a crowd of downers. No more than 50 I presume. In the center of them all were Hyler's people and Hyler's mom. Hyler let out a soft cry, "No. they've all been captured. They were supposed to hide and wait for me." They were all tied up. Hyler's mom was tied up too, but differently. Unlike the normal hands behind your back, sit down position, she was tied upside down. Her hands were tied above her head. It was very similar to how we tied up Zane and Jenn. I could tell she was alive, she was moving slightly. It looked like she was slipping in and out of consciousness. She was also tossed around a bit. Her head and arms were covered with cuts and bruises. I could see Hyler tearing up, so I put an arm around her for comfort. One of the downers, who I take it to be the leader, began to speak. His voice loud as it echoes.

"My people! We are almost to our victory! We have all of the seekers in this city and were going to kill them all!" The rest of the downers cheered loudly for joy. "Now, I know you're all still worried about "The One" Hyler, but I promise you she won't be a problem once all her people are massacred!" They cheered again but even louder this time. "The time is now that they pay for all of our misery!" He glared down at Hyler's mom and smiled. "Starting with their precious leader." The downers cheered again as I scanned all of their faces. One stood out to me. A girl, the only one in a crowd of downers who wasn't cheering. In fact, she was crying. With my attention on her I almost didn't noticed Hyler backing up and standing. "We got to get down there now!" She yelled as she took off down another path with me closely behind. The cheering was still loud when we finally made it down. I wish we would've ran faster, I wish we would've started running a few minutes before hand, and I wish I was the one who ran down there first.
