"Now Paden, do you remember anything else at all?" I shook my head no to the cop who was asking me a thousand and one questions. I sat in my hospital bed sipping apple juice. The cop nodded, then pulled my mother to the side. Ignoring them, I pulled my iPhone and iPad out of my bag. I had over 50 text messages and calls. From Jenn, my girlfriend, Lucas, my best friend, and other classmates I barely know. I called Jenn first. She picked up on the first ring. "Babe? Are you okay?!? I've crazy worried about you!" "I'm okay Jenn. I'm in the hospital right now." "You do know your accident's been all over the news and the Internet? Do you know the chick who saved you?" I paused as I started to search my pad. "No, not at all. I wish I did though." "Why is that?" Jenn asked. "Simple. She saved my life and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her. I would really like to thank her." "Okay I get it. I'll be up there in a few, okay?" "Yea. Love you." She was silent before she said it back and hung up.
I found multiple videos of the girl. I still can't believe she pushed me out of the way like that. As I watched some more videos, my mother walked back to my side. "I'm going to get some dinner, you haven't ate much right?" I shook my head. She smiled and kissed my forehead. "Okay I'll be back in a jiffy." She said as she walked out. I put my stuff up and decided to take a nap, until I heard a knock on my door. So much for that. "Come in." I said as I adjusted myself upright. I froze when I saw who walked in. "It can't be you..." The girl smile at me and took of her beanie.
Her fiery hair fell down as she fixed it with her hands. "Hi Paden." She said as I starred at her in awe. "How... umm, how did you find me?" She shrugged as she walked closer, "Wasn't that hard. It was much easier than saving your life though." I chuckled, "Who are you? How do you know my name?" She walked even closer until she was by my side. "Well, that's a very long and complicated story, but my name is Hyler." "Huh, interesting name. Definitely more interesting than mine." She giggled and it made me smile. "Kind of, I guess. I think we both have very unique names. Our parents are definitely original thinkers."
My phone started to beep as I looked at the message. I half smiled, "My girlfriends on her way up. She wouldn't believe you're here." Her smile immediately dropped, "Bet she's not alone..." I cocked my head a little, "What? Why do you say that?" She shook her head, "Nothing, forget I said anything." "Too late. What did you me?" I asked firmly. She sighs deeply, "Lucas, your best friend, he's probably with her." I smirked, "Why would my best friend be with my girlfriend?" she gives me a sympathetic look, "Come on Paden, don't make me say it. You know what I'm hinting at. You've felt the weirdness between them sometimes when the three of you are together, but you brush it off as nothing." We just glare at each other until there's another knock on my door. "Come in." I say and in walk Jenn with Lucas.
Their focus quickly leaves me when they see Hyler. Lucas gasps, "OMFG, it's you! The highlighted savior!" Hyler scoffs, "The what?" "It's what they're calling you online and stuff..." Said Jenn as she glared at Hyler. "So you're here. Funny, Paden said he didn't know you and yet here you are." "Jealous?" Hyler asks with a grin. "Excuse me? Why would I be jealous? Paden's my boyfriend, has been for two years!" "Well you should remind yourself more often." Hyler mumbled. "What did you just say?!?" asked Jenn. "Are you sleeping with Lucas?" I asked out of the blue. Everyone grew quiet and looked at me. Hyler's arms were crossed and Jenn and Lucas looked back and forth from one another. "Now... I want answers."
