# tomfoolery in the 70's between neves and pals" So I heard you believe in fairies. " A man's voice asked from the other seat beside him. Chris ultimately rolled his eyes, turning his barstool around to face the man without answering right away. He wanted to study their face to see if they were referencing his preferences or his imagination, but he could only make out their jawline seeing as they wore a mask in the shape of a skull to hide their eyes . Though they were much smaller than him in stature, looking malnourished and paler than anyone he'd ever seen, he couldn't help but feel a little on edge with them right there. Perhaps it was the appearance of the mask. Chipped and decrepit, almost as if it were made from actual bone. He stared longer than he meant to, because the other man cleared his throat and spoke. " Maybe you didn't hear me. Fairies. You believe in em?"
He couldn't think of an answer, yes and yes were the true answers, but who was this guy? He didn't have to speak though, because when the other locked eyes with him, he found himself nodding.
" I thought so. Don't worry though, I'm not looking for those kind tonight. I was told you knew where to find a fairy grove around here. "
This granted some security, but now there was a new paranoia streaming through his blood. He hadn't told anyone what he knew. He wanted to get up and leave but felt almost like he couldn't. Half afraid to offend this person who already gave him the creeps and knows so much and half curious about what else he knew.
" The fear you're experiencing is good and perfectly natural, don't worry. Not many people can look a demon in the eye without expelling secrets. " " I'm not scared. " He said finally, breaking the one way conversation after collecting his thoughts. He knew demons were nuisances, but he could probably just will it away if needed be. " Oh, so you are verbal? I thought so. Anyway, Christopher, yes?"
" Yes. And you are?" The masked man chuckled and shook his head. " If I told you that, you'd run. Call me Johnathan. About that fairy grove, why do you insist on going there? You know you're not welcome. "
He shrugged, letting his mind wonder towards his misdeeds of mutilation and torment towards the small creatures. " They interest me. " " You don't fool me Chris, I already told you secrets don't last around demons. " " It wasn't a lie. It was a truth. " He said defensively. In a sense, it was the truth. Their anatomy, magic, and abilities interested him greatly. After all, why else would he tear them apart? " Humans. So quick to justify their sick perversions. What do you say to taking a trip with me?" He asked, watching the look of regrets flashing across their face. It never occurred to him why people tortured themselves with their own actions or trying to resist creatures bigger than their comprehension. "Pass. " It wasn't exactly the answer he expected, not at all really. A sense of anger rushed him when he watched Chris turn away from him so dismissively. " We'll be leaving now. " He muttered, rising from his seat and walking from the bar, making Chris mirror his motions. " W-wait, I have a tab!" Chris barked, following the other out the door. " Johnathan!" He ignored him, continuing their stroll. He wondered around, giving Chris time to sober up and clear his thoughts just enough to bring him in the right direction. After a brief search they began the walk towards the gardens. Chris had stopped complaining roughly forty minutes into their walk, now moving at his own freewill. However, now he wouldn't stop asking questions. " So did I mess up something for you to be here or are you going to hurt the fairies? I don't care if you hurt the fairies, I just don't want you to kill them or anything. " He continued to ignore him up until he found exactly what he was looking for, an opening in the middle of the wooded area outside of the major part of the city. " Thank you Chris, you can go home now." He stood there beyond confused for a moment before settling on one more question. " Why?" " You're a good gps, but I no longer need your help. This will be a good home for me. " " Uh ... what is a gps?" He couldn't help but smile a little at his ignorance. " Well, in roughly twenty to thirty years, people are gonna have electronic computer maps to show them how to get places. You know magic, just dig through the dimensions of time. " He was even more confused now, trying to grasp the concept of such a thing. It seemed incredible, but was that really going to be a thing or was this guy teasing? " Get some rest, Chris. You'll be seeing a lot more of me here soon. Starting tomorrow, I'll answer any questions you have. "
