With only the essentials in her school bag, Elizabeth Mayfield walked down the stairs to the Hellfire's den more happily than she had the last time. A pair of chocolate eyes caught hers as she emerged from the darkness and she smiled at them.
- I know, I know... I'm saving your campaign ; don't applaud me, she said.
Her voice resonated in the room and the silence was immediate. Several heads turned to her in incomprehension before smiling or gently rolling their eyes, as they wished.
- So when do we start messing with the Cult of Vecna ? Just so we can kick his ass, because I do feel like there's one who's a little too confident about his campaign, Elizabeth asked arrogantly, following her words with a look at the boy at the end of the table.
The redhead rejoined her seat next to Gareth and Eddie at the head of the table. Her fist hit the first one in a friendly handshake and her body bent in a shaky curtsy to the dungeon master. Obviously in a teasing mood, he grabbed her hand to place a kiss on the back of it. His insistent gaze screwed into the young woman's destabilized the Mayfield girl, who pretended like nothing had happened by quickly withdrawing her hand and going to sit down.
As Mike chuckled with Dustin under his breath, Eddie's serious voice rang out. The game was just beginning.
At first, everything seemed to be going like a boat on calm seas. A few goblins here, a few low-level mage apprentices there, some insultingly easy enigmas here and there. But the boat was definitely not prepared for such a tidal wave. Soon our little group was caught in the eye of the storm and their daring ship was losing bits and pieces. Perhaps they, more than their ship, had been too brave ? Or maybe they were just completely reckless. Whatever, their path crossed with an army of barbarian orcs, and then with several trolls and ghouls that they had to flee. The dungeons seemed endless.
The cruel Eddie Munson was thrilled. He liked to see that his scenario was giving them a hard time, especially after they had underestimated it.
So now, the group of heroes was looking for a princess lost in one of those infernal dungeons.
- A princess, really ? You didn't find anything more original ? asked Dustin to Eddie, huffing and puffing in frustration.
- It's up to you, began the curly-haired boy, raising his hands in the air like a man on the run who's surrendering.
- You can go round the dungeon, but there's no guarantee that it will be easier. Who knows, the princess may be helpful, Eddie explained.
Convinced, they all set out to find the princess. Defying death and its minions many times, our heroes solved many mysteries, but the road to the end of the dungeon was perilous and full of pitfalls. They were only waiting for one thing : to find her majesty. As the ounce of hope they had left began to fade, Elizabeth set fire to a wooden door and the room fell silent, its occupants waiting to find out what lay behind the pile of ashes.
- Behind the door, now reduced to a pile of dust, is a room whose beauty amazes you. The immaculate furniture in it must be made of the most expensive materials to be of such beauty. The same goes for the paintings on the walls, they are impressive. In the center of this magnificent place is a woman with clothes that probably cost a fortune, she looks at you with round eyes, stunned.
- The princess! I hope she's pretty, commented Jeff.
Elizabeth rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to Eddie who was watching her.
- Oh to be pretty, she sure is. The furniture in the room is nothing compared to her. She may even be the one who makes the room glow. If she was captured, it's easy to see why. Really she is... It's unspeakable. The most beautiful girl you've ever seen. She's the kind of girl you never forget breaking up with. She's beautiful on the inside, too, Munson described to his friends, who looked at him blissfully.
