luna carpenter

i awoke with a start, sitting up in the warm room, instantly regretting it. i raised my palm to my forehead, feeling my temperature.

i lay down again, rolling over in attempt to sleep off the hangover i knew was here. i lie there with my eyes closed but then i can hear movement. i could see the light through my eyelids, and i knew i couldn't sleep any longer. the pounding in my head was painful, it felt like someone was hitting me with a hammer, and the pain just didn't seem to be going away.

i then felt the bed dip, and then raise again. siting up, i saw marnie standing at her bag, rummaging through it.

"what are you looking for?" i asked out loud.

"shit, luna." she jumped a little, turning to me. "just some paracetamol, need some?"

i nodded, as she walked downstairs. i reached over to the bedside table, grabbing my phone. i pressed the home screen button, peering at the time, then the date. groaning, i rubbed my eyes, pulling the covers from my body.

getting out of the bed, i shook the bundle of duvets on the floor, earning a grunt from under it.

"esme, chloe, it's time to get up, we have school." i say.

i walk to my wardrobe, opening it, switching through the clothes. i looked out of the window, and it looked a little chilly, so i chose some high waisted jeans with rips on the knees, a white crop top and a black and white checkered flannel.

i undress from my pyjama shorts and a tank top, throwing them into the wash basket. i pulled out some fresh undergarments, walking to the bathroom. i took the old ones off, slipping the new undergarments off, chucking them into the basket as well. i brush my teeth, then walk back into my room, picking up the clothes.

i pulled the jeans on, before doing the same with the crop top. i opened my sock drawer, grabbing a pair of baby blue ankle socks, slipping them on my feet. marnie entered my room, handing me a paracetamol and a glass of water. i place the pill on my tongue, taking a large gulp of the water, hoping this would make me feel better.

i went over to my dressing table, sitting down on the stool. i opened the drawers, picking up a concealer, a liquid eyeliner, a mascara, a cherry colored lipstick, and my eyebrow kit.

i applied a few dabs of concealer underneath my eyes, rubbing it in with my ring finger. then i took the eyeliner, creating a winged look. i took the mascara, coating my eyelashes a few time. i picked up the lipstick, pulling the lid off, and began to apply it on my lips. i fill in my eyebrows, following the natural curve.

all the girls were already ready so i grab my phone, along with my reading glasses, and we walk down stairs. searching through my shoe rack, i decide on a pair of low top white converse. i slip them on, tying the laces up, grabbing my earphones from the coffee table.

i wave goodbye to my mother, and my baby brother, walking out with the girls. we all get into marnies car, and make our journey to school.

it was last period and me and marnie both have history, so we walk straight there, sending esme and chloe a wave as we leave. we enter the classroom, and i walk to the back of the room, sitting down, and marnie sits in her seat a few tables ahead of mine.

i pulled my phone out, plugging in my earphones. i press the home button, sliding the lock screen, tapping in the four digit password. i decided to just shuffle my music. i hear don't by bryson tiller begin to play in my ears and i lean back, staring out of the window. i then heard my teacher cough loudly, and i pulled the earphones from my ears, looking up at her, as she began to speak to the entire class.

"i've decided that i haven't set a project in awhile, so i've decided to set one." she speaks, earning a groan from the class. "you will be in partners for this project."

marnie instantly turned around to look at me, and we shot each other a smile.

"i will be assigning partners." our teacher spoke as she started to list off partners.

"marnie and ben." she turned around to me again, and pouted at me, before standing up and moving next to the boy.

"luna and cameron." my teacher read out.

cameron? there wasn't even anyone in my year named cameron, let alone my class. i pulled a confused face at marnie, until i noticed a figure standing next to me in the corner of my eye, i look up to see who it is.

it was him. that boy from the party.
