𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆𝒅 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒏𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕, Charlie still didn't know if she was going. But when she woke up the next morning, it was as self-evident, her father's words echoing in her head.

You're a Stark.

The seat is yours since you were born.

Deciding to wear a XL black suit - nothing really sexy this time, just plain girl boss vibes - she put her blazer on in front of the mirror when Charlie spotted James behind her through the reflection.

"Important meeting at work today?" he asked, studying her from head to toe.

She still faced the mirror, adjusting her shirt's sleeve underneath the jacket when she answered, not daring to meet his gaze, the memories of him eating her out still too vivid in her mind. "Surprise visit at Stark Industries, actually."

"For the board of directors?"

She hummed in confirmation as she ran her hands through her blow-dried hair, giving it more volume. Tony kept asking that same question for months now, for her to join the Executive Committee, and she kept declining his offer.

But today's was different.

"Stane will be there," that wasn't a question, more like a statement.

A seemingly random one, but Charlie knew better.

Yes he would be there. And he would be the last man on earth to be happy to see her in the room, both of them having total opposite opinions on a large range of topics, starting with the weapon industry's future.

And Charlie would be ready to pay an insane amount of money to see the face Stane would make when he'd see her enter the room.

Good for her she would see it for free.

"Of course you know him," Charlie turned on her heel and faced him, her hands resting on her hips, examining the sergeant. "He's the one who recommended you, right?"

"He did," James straightened, as he was uncomfortable. "But he's dangerous."

Was he trying to say she couldn't handle Obadiah Stane? She knew the man since she was a baby, grew up with him being the mentor of her father, present at every Stark's family gatherings.

"He's nothing I can't handle," she said. The truth was that he was a jealous, egotistical jerk, and that could make him dangerous indeed.

"You don't know what you're talking about," James clenched his jaw, the muscle throbbing.

"Are you trying to stop me from going, Sergeant?" she asked as she took a couple of steps toward him.

"I don't like the way he looks at you," he said, his tone firm, almost possessive, as he studied her getting dangerously close to him.
