The first five minutes of the drive to her office were deathly silence until James extended his hand. "Your keys," he said.
"What?"
"Give me your car keys," he clarified, rushing her by wiggling his fingers.
"Are you confiscating them from me?" she answered and he clenched his jaw, gripping the steering wheel with a single hand hard enough his knuckles turned white. His gaze still focused on the road, he didn't even look at her nor answered to her. Faced with his silence, Charlie snorted. "You're kidding, right?"
"Did you ever saw me crack a joke?"
"Right," she threw her hands in the air before they once again loudly landed on her lap. "You're not the funny one. Actually, you're the least funny person I ever met."
"Ouch," he said in a flat voice, not an ounce of hurt in it, his hand still extended and ready for her to drop her keys in his palm. "Now give them to me."
"No way," she said as she made sure to close her fingers around the keys in her hand.
"You sure about that?" he challenged.
"Never been so sure of anything," she straightened on her seat with her chin up.
A corner of her lips curled upward when James seamed to have abandoned the idea to retrieve her car keys as his hand dropped and landed on the gear lever.
She won.
At least, that was what she thought.
The next street light turned red and he stopped the car. He unfastened his seatbelt and started leaning toward her, invading her space. His steel-blue eyes dropped to her lips as his hands slid along her body, earning him a gasp that escaped from her mouth when they wandered further south.
His lips brushed hers, but he straigthened even faster than he came close, quickly establishing back the distance between them.
"You were saying, doll?" James cocked a grin as he shook the set of keys in her direction - the keys that where in her hands just a few seconds ago - the metal tinting together, taunting her.
Staring at him in shock, Charlie gulped, her cheeks turning in the darkest shade of pink. Him being close to her was something she knew her body wanted, but how it really craved for his heat - how it so quickly reacted - caught her off guard.
As he pushed down the accelerator, she opened the window and leaned on the side to feel the fresh air on her face, cooling her down because she was going to melt if she stayed a second longer like this.
"What are you doing?" James threw a quick glance in her direction, frowning. "It's freezing outside and the heating is on."
But she did nothing but close her eyes, staying silent as the icy air stung every inch of her skin exposed.
