Friday was a beautiful day with a fair weather, the 27th of March. She was packed, dressed and anxious by the time he arrived her home in his pathfinder which was past ten o’clock. She nearly tripped when rushing out to meet him, locking her door hastily and leaving the key in case any of her sisters dropped by and wanted to stay. He met her at the car door.

‘Bonjour Mi Amour!’ he greeted. ‘How was your night? Although I am sure that you hardly slept a wink,’ he teased.

‘I slept well thank you,’ was her answer. He was right, but she was not going to give him the chance to gloat. She took off her brown sunglasses then and put it in her posh handbag.

‘If you say so my sweet,’ he said. She looked up at him, staring into his eyes and his iris constricted in wonder. Was that her eyes? He triple checked. It was really her eyes, not contact lens –he knew when she was wearing one. Her eyes, they were a sharp green, like freshly cut grass, entrancing. ‘Your eyes,’ he said, lost, ‘They are beautiful.’

‘Thank you,’ was her candid reply. The compliment left her blushing, red staining her fair skin, cheeks, and neck and collar bone. Her body had an erotic way of blushing. She felt bashful. She turned away from his sight as he opened the car door and held on for her.

‘Won't you ask about mine?’ he said to her with a knowing smile. ‘Won't you ask about my night Ma Cherie?’ he asked again. She sighed at the question. He held the door as he helped her into the automobile like a well mannered gentleman. She managed to snort at the gesture, Clement, a gentleman? That would be when pigs fly isn’t that? She managed to not laugh. He took her small bag from her to put it in the car boot.

‘I know you didn’t sleep a wink either,’ was her sordid straightforward reply. He chuckled at her accusing statement.

‘My night was fantastical Mon Coeur, thank you for asking,’ he said with a defeated smile. She ignored him, totally immersed in the beach, their destination, wishing nothing to taint that mood. He shut the door and let her be. He dropped her bag in the boot as he went to the driver’s seat. He wore his seat belt and made sure she did same. Then, he ignited the car and zoomed off.

She leaned back in her seat the moment he took off, relaxing. She really had not slept a wink the night before, much too anxious to do so, adrenaline running through her explicitly. She had managed to fall asleep towards dawn but was roused from her gradual slumber the moment she was oblivious, unconscious by a call from her sister. Lotenne, her big sister was just checking if she was fine. She had responded that she was. They had talked at length until the dawn when she had hung up and began to hurriedly pack up her things for their date. She had regretted leaving it till the last minute. He had arrived just as she was done preparing.

‘That’s good bye to sleep,’ she had murmured when his car pulled into the drive way. ‘Welcome whatever beach,’ she had said with a broad smile her lack of sleep forgotten in an instant.
