As it got into the later hours of the afternoon the Rainwing tribe awoke from their suntime. Starling and Mango glided down to the grassy courtyard at the base of the school trees. Many of the students liked to come here after school for clubs and study groups. Starling was helping Mango with her biology homework. She had a little clay pot filled with soil rich and brown like Starling's scales; a small sapling sprouting out from the soil.

"Why do I have to take notes on this boring little tree when I have tons of huge trees all around me!?" Mango's scales rippled shades of orange and purple, "this tree can't even give me a snack!"

"Ms. Aster said these seeds came from trees in the Sky Kingdom," Starling said, "I think the point of this is to study plants that aren't from the rainforest."

"The Sky Kingdom," more flecks of purple shimmered on Mango's scales, "that's where you're from, right?"

Starling drooped, "I guess."

"How'd you even end up here anyway?" Mango questioned, rippling light blues and purples.

"Barley says he found my egg in the mud by the river," Starling said, "he doesn't know how I got there, or who my parents are. But he also found a golden sun pendant by my egg."

Barley. The old Rainwing who found him as an egg. He took care of Starling like a father.

"Woah!" Mango exclaimed, flickers of yellow appearing on her wings, "mysterious! What if the sun thing has something to do with your parents? What if we could find them!?"

"You mean..." Starling hesitated, "leave the rainforest? But I've never left before!"

"Well neither have I, monkey brains!" Mango protested.

That was true. Neither of them had left before. Who knew what was out there? Who knew what dangers lurked beyond those trees?

"Do you still have it?" Mango questioned, "do you know where it is?"

"I think Barley may have it," Starling said.

"Well then lets go!" Mango exclaimed, turning brilliant shades of yellow and pink.

"Maybe we should finish your homework first..." Starling stalled, pulling the pot away from Mango so she wouldn't knock it over.
