"kaha hai aap?", Anubhav's voice was heavy with worry. There were torrential rains, lashing major parts of Mumbai, from the last few hours. And monsoon, once again filled the streets and highways of the city.
"hum abhi ek dhabe me ruke hai Anu, yaha ki daabeli..."she licks her lips, "bahout achi hai"
"haseena! Hey prabhu hum aapka kya kare. Aapne halat dekhi hai bahar? Aap ke investigation ke area se ghar ke raste me pull toot gaya hai. Aapka phone nahi lag raha tha, humme itne bure khayal aa rahe the lekin aapko apne khaane ki padi hai", he growled.
His littlest touched her deepest in preganancy hormones.
"humare phone me network nahi tha. Humne aapko yaha ke owner ke phone se dial kiya lekin aap baar baar kaat rahe the. Message kar sake usse pehle aapka phone aagaya. Aur hum apne baby ke liye careless nahi hai...ye samjh lijye aap. Bas har samay humme daat te rehte hai. Aapko nahi samajh ayega pregnancy me kitni mushkil hoti hai humme. Phir bhi bata rahe hai hum dhabe me khane nahi mausam ki kharabi ke wajha se hi ruke the. Bhookh lagi thi, isliye phir order kiya. Yaha aane ki zarurat nahi hai hum apne aap manage karlenge", she explained and hanged up. Anubhav hit his head in frustration.
Dealing with her was very difficult during this time as she had grown very emotional. But when it came to their safety, he was no less irritable."ab phir ye apna phone nahi utha rahi...dhabe wale ko hi phone karke address puch lete hai."
He took his car keys and left. There Haseena had gone grumpy. Seeing a tourist bus leaving in the same direction, she too left the place in anger.Night Time
Haseena was waiting for him anxiously. All her anger was replaced by concern as he still hadn't reached home. The clock has swept to the next date. It was midnight. He wasn't back.
The door bell rang, bringing her out of her endless failed tries of calling him.
As soon as he entered inside with a tired face, she was facing his wrath.
"aap khud ek bache ke maa ban ne waali hai par khud ka bachpana nahi gaya hai! Inti bhi kya narazgi Haseena? Ruk nahi sakti thi waha...News dekh rahi hai? kitne accidents ho rahe hai! aur aise mausam me raat ko aap khud drive karke yaha aayi. Haseena aapka agar ye ruthne ka har baar ka khel hai toh sorry ab hum ye nahi khel sakte. Bina khuch soche samjhe chaldi. Khuch keh do toh humme apne bache ka khayaal hai, aap possesvie ho rahe...ki rat laga leti hai. Aree humme toh kehti hai apna gussa control kijye aur khud? Bas ab zara si baat hui nahi...aur aapke aasu behene lagte hai..." He practically shouted on her.
She wipes her tears, locks the door and rushes to the bothroom, listening to his angry order. "jab tak barsaat ka masaum khatam nahi ho jaata aap drive nahi karengi", he says in a cold tone, instead of calming her.
Anubhav fell on the sofa, pressing his forehead between his fingers.
He taps on the whatsapp icon on his phone screen. The video which plays in front of his eyes, gets blurred due to his tears.
Flashback
"Ye Haseena hai...yaha aayi thi?" Anubhav asks from the dhaba owner, showing her picture on phone. He was drenched in rain. Drops of water slipped from his raincoat to the floor.
"Aap inke pati hai kya bhaisahab? Jinhone abhi humse baat ki thi?", the owner asked.
Anubhav nods. "Bhaisahab woh madam toh gusse me nikal gayi thi jab tak hum unhe rokne pahuche. Apna khana bhi nahi khaya pura"
"Chalo Anubhav beta ghar me tumhari khair nahi. Kyuki apne shishu ke saath milkar woh humpar barasne wali hai", he thinks and feels sad for scolding her. However much he tries, sometimes, he fails to understand her next move or mood swings, even when they have covered half of her nine month journey.
"Suniye bhai sahab. Do dabeli pack karne ke hisab se bana dijye. Aur ek plate paav bhaji...masala wali. Ekdum theekhi" He knew, that food would always make her pregnant wife happy. By the time he had reached here, the shower's force have lessened. He was less worried assuming that she would reach home any moment.
A waiter returned with his order. He paid and walked back to his car, hoping to reach his home as soon as possible. His phone beeped flashing messages from an unknown number. As a video played his heart stopped beating...
Flashback Ends
A video shows a brown colored Brezza model car, having same number plate as of Haseena being chased by a white sedan. The model and number of car which followed Haseena's was not clear. The white car tried to overtake Haseena. It skidded. Bumped into her's, disbalancing her to an electric poll.
Having watched the video third time, he was infuriated. He threw the phone causing it to break into two pieces.
Flashback continues
For that moment he thought, he had lost all that he had possessed. Though in 4years and few months of their marriage they had been working tirelessly, many times staying away from eachother but they had endless memories, to cherish for a life time. All happy moments with her rummaged in his head like a trailer of movie. He went numb. Even the agent in him could not force the body to work.
"Ha..se...na...", he fumbled crying, calling her like insane but not even the network was his side. Some how he tried to keep his emotions at bay.
"Hello Aunty", he called his neighbor."Haan bolo Anubhav beta", the old lady answered from the otherside. "Ek baar dekhengi kya Haseena pahuch gayi ghar? Phone hi nahi lag raha hai unka...masaum kitna kharab hai." He breathed long, to ensure he sounds fine.
"5 minute do mujhe me jaati hu...", she replied, making her way to their apartment.
"Haseena yahi hai...lekin tumse baat nahi kar rahi", her words worked like putting his soul back to his body. He cried silently."Koi baat nahi aunty bas unse kahiye woh ghar hi rahe"
"Kitni baar samjhaya hai tumhe. Haseena garbhwati hai. Lada mat karo usse""Ji...ji...Aunty. Hum dekh lenge unhe ghar aake", he bitterly smiled and hanged up without listening further.
Anubhav rested his head on the steering letting his emotions flow."Ye sirf shurwaat hai agent Anubhav", A voice note was sent few minutes later.
The video was fake just to scare him to death. But the father and husband in him, alerted the agent- rugged, rough and ruthless.
Flashback Ends.
Their apartment was silent. But in that silence two lovers cried. One by his behavior. One for her and the baby's safety.
He tip toed to the room. Keeping his ear
near the bathroom door he could her splashing water on her face and crying."Haseena please bahar aajaiye", he said, slapping the door. Hearing his voice she felt crying more.
"Sorry Jaana", he sighed, dejected at himself.
"Jaante hai aapko bahot bura laga hoga humari baato se. Lekin sach me hum gussa the. Dare hue the din se, jab se barsaat ho rahi hai...please jaan. Bahar aa jaiye", His voice cracked at last, which pinched her heart. Haseena wiped her face with a towel she came outside but quickly went inside the quilt. Covering herself.
He followed, sleeping beside her. With a guilty feeling he kept her hands on her belly. She pushed them immediately. He repeated, kissing her forehead. Even if he had said mean things to her in anger, his touch was providing comfort. She didn't speak a work but let him snuggle, in her.
"Sorry, jaana...aage jo bhi karenge uske liye I am sorry", he thought, as he looked at her sleeping figure.
What is he upto?
