"kid hasn't scored a single point for his team." nick giggles.
"there's still a few minutes left. that's more than enough time, right?"
"uh huh.."
nick pulled out his phone, clearly disinterested in the game.
"by the way, i've been meaning to show you this—"
"WOOOOOOO!" cheers the crowd.
you and nick look up at the field, confused. chris was swinging his lacrosse stick around, receiving high fives from his teammates.
"i haven't seen chris this determined since ages ago." gasps nick.
chris looked over at the bleachers, and held a finger up.
it was his pinkie.
"he kept the promise." you chuckled.
"obviously. have you seen yourself?" nick elbowed you again.
"wait. what'd he tell you? you never finished telling me." you ask again.
"he didn't know where to take you to hang out, so he was asking me for advice."
"no way." you smile.
"and he also was like 'matt inviting y/n over was the best thing to happen this week.'"
"did he tell this to matt too?"
"i'm not sure. maybe? i gotta ask matt."
the game finished 10 minutes later, with chris and matt's team as the final winners.
"so where did you tell him to take me?" you ask nick.
"i suggested the arcade, but he has something better planned."
"like what..?"
"you'll see."

later that night, you met up with chris at his house.
spending the rest of the night with him was something you didn't see coming, but you were happy about it anyway.
"congrats on winning." you tell him.
oddly enough, matt and nick were nowhere to be found.
"thanks for motivating me." he laughs.
"anytime."
he grabs his sweater off his couch, and leads you out the door.
"i'm not sure if you're gonna like where we're going." he zips his sweater up. "i hope you do, though."
"i'm sure i will."
you guys walked down the street, until you reached a place full of people, lights, and rides.
"the fair?!" you smile. "i've been dying to come!"
"me too."
— — —
"look at the giant koala." you gasp, pointing at one of the games.
"want it?"
"as if you could win it." you laugh, popping another piece of cotton candy in your mouth.
"i can! and i will."
he extends his pinkie out, smiling.
you lock your pinky with his, again, and give him a skeptical look.
"i'm trusting you."
"i know, y/n."
he walks to the little booth, and starts to play.
you were having such a great night with chris. matt was the entire reason this was happening, so you decided to text him.

"we have a WINNER!"
chris looked over at you, and raised his pinky.
"told you." he tells you.
the booth person handed him the gigantic koala, and congratulated him on winning again.
"i believe this is yours?" chris hands you the stuffed animal.
"it's adorable! thanks."
after an hour passes, you and chris walk to your house.
"today's been fun." chris tells you on your porch.
"yeah. it has."
he glanced over at you, as if he wanted to tell you something.
"what?" you chuckle.
"nothing."
"no really, what?"
"do you wanna go out again some other time? but like.. as a couple or something?"
"oh? so like.. boyfriend and girlfriend."
he nodded.
".. but only if you want to. if not, i understand—"
you got on your tippy toes, and give him a small kiss.
"fine by me."
