I wrote down the last answer to the pop quiz that Alice had seen coming. I already knew all of these answers from the year I went from 7 to 11 in five months.
Jake was having trouble, so I showed him my answers. He wrote on my paper: Show-off. I laughed to myself and wrote back: Whatev. You want 2 go hunting tonight? I'm the only girl going.
He nodded and put: Of course I'll go. But I always get the biggest catch.
I stuck my tongue out at him and wrote: We'll see about that, Jacob Black.
He rolled his eyes at my formal expression. I know how silly he gets when we hunt. I pretended to stretch when the teacher looked up at me and smiled. He was a young teacher and thought he had a chance with a 17-year-old. Me, naturally. I smiled back and looked at Jake.
When the teacher looked back down in embarassment, I put my palm on Jake's scalding cheek and showed him all of the images of our hunting trips. He chuckled to himself at times. I somehow let an image of Jesse's eyes slip. He started trembling and wrote: wow. Really?
Then the pen snapped in two.
I bit my lip and wrote: Jealous, much? I think he smells good, that's all.
He nodded and stopped shaking. Luckily, the bell rang. The teacher (Mr. Rhines) stopped me at the door and said politely, "Hello, Nessie. May I speak with you for a moment?" I nodded and said, "Sure, Mr. Rhines." I leaned against his desk. He sat in his chair and said, "So, I see that you've got some, er... passionate feelings for Mr. Black. Is that correct?" I blushed and mumbled, "Something like that." I thought of how we were meant to be with each other before I'd even been born. Creepy, yet romantic.
He said, "I'm just starting to think he might not be the best choice for you." I said, "Well, who do you think is?" I felt sickened already. He came around the side of the desk and wrapped an arm around my waist. He said, "Ness, have you ever considered an older man?" I shrugged him off, pulled my bag over my shoulder, and started backing toward the doorway. "I'm sorry, Mr. Rhines, but you have the wrong girl. I'm not stupid." Then I hurried out of the door. And ran right into Emmett.
He said, "Chill, Ness. What's up?" I shook my head and said, "I hate the teachers here." Edward came up to me and said, "I saw what happened. I would've stopped that creep, but we're at school..." I said, "What a pervert. He looked down my shirt." I shuddered and went to find Jake. This teacher-student contact thing happened about seven times last year. No biggie.
Hunting that night, I didn't even remember Jesse as smelling good, and his eyes looked normal. Rose stopped me in the hall the next day, a frightened look on her face. She said, "Renesmee, Bella, Alice, and I are taking you home. Right now." I asked, "Why?" She said, "Edward saw the last Brexter's thoughts. The vampire's looking for you. He wants to kill you. We have to go...NOW!!!!" I let her drag me down the hall and zoom down the road in my car. She didn't notice my skin getting paler, and my skin freezing into ice. I knew who she meant the Brexter was. It was obvious!
