The next morning I woke up with a nightmare playing through my head, like a memory would be.. It was a memory! Leah was calling me a blood-sucking monster that was a pathetic mistake. But..Leah was one of my best friends! She was telling Bella that..in front of Edward. Brave kid. But where was Jacob?! This was blurry-was I born yet? I had to know what this was all about.

I walked up to Bella, who was sitting on the couch with Edward, flipping through the local news. More bloody paw prints, closer to Forks. Seven found dead. I said, "Mom, I have to know something.." I pressed my palm to her hand (now I could press my palm to someone else's palm-like holding hands) and showed her the confusing memory. When I was done she said," Yeah, um, Ness. Leah hated you before you were born. But Jake talked to her and-" Edward cut her off with a snort. "That's one way to put it." I blinked and said, as if someone was ordering me to, "I have to go to La Push." Edward and Bella called for me to come back because of the "other pack," but it was too late. I was already out the door, running on auto-pilot.

When I got there, I saw Jacob. I started toward him, but I was being pulled back by something. Instead I headed toward some hot dude I kind of recognized from a dream. He was talking to three other equally hot guys. For some reason, I got in the middle of their circle and said, "Hey guys, I'm Nessie." They said hi-all except that one guy. He just looked at my face and grinned evilly. Jake walked over a minute later with an infuriated expression. He pulled me behind him and said, "What do you guys want with her?" They took an arch against him and I stepped in front of him. I went up to the main boy and said, "Hey, have we met?" Jake grabbed my wrist and yanked me back to the edge of the water.

He growled, "Ness! You just...ugh! Those guys are who we think are the bad ones. Not like you care. Inevitable immortality, and you want to waste it on some psychos. Typical." In the middle of his speech I looked off at the guys and "that one" nodded at me and walked off into the forest with his posse. I could hear him with my amazing eavesdropping ears say to the others, "Let's grab lunch." I took a sharp breath, but didn't flinch back. I started to walk toward them, but Jacob pulled me back. He was shuddering when he said, "They don't want you like you like I do! They want to kill you!" I felt the ice water in my veins evaporate and I fell into him with a clenching breath. "I couldn't control it, Jake!" Now I was in hysterical tears. He rubbed circles around my back and whispered, "Ness, you're starting to scare me more than usual."
