The Morning's Dusk

Chapter 10

The next morning, I ran outside into a warm mist. It was always humid in Forks, but I could get used to it. It was much better than Alaska, where I had to have Jake around to keep me warm all the time. Which I'm not complaining about now, but then I thought he was just obnoxious with his being around ALL THE TIME.

Today would be a good day, though. Jake was taking me to the spring dance. I don't really see why everyone makes a big deal out of these things. It just gives Alice an excuse to declare me her very own dress-up doll. Which, she really doesn't need excuses when she knows I'll give in because I feel bad that I give her headaches.

Right now I was in my PJ's and I knew if she saw me in short shorts and a tank top, I would be injured. So I ran back inside and jumped on my bed. I knew she was awake (not that she could sleep), but I didn't want to disturb her. So I jammed out in my room.

Just as I thought, Alice popped into my room around 3:00 in the afternoon and smiled at me as if I was her favorite present on Christmas Day. She said, "So, since the dance is at 7:30 we have time to go hunting and fly to Rome for a dress. Then when we get back we'll do your hair and makeup." She bit her lip and said, "Um, you don't really need makeup. You give too many guys heart attacks already." I laughed and she did too. Then she made me change and we left.

We got back at 4:45 on the dot and Bella gave me a sympathetic look. "Alice got to you." I chuckled and Alice grabbed my wrist with her freezing hands and exclaimed, "We aren't done yet!" Then we ran upstairs and she dressed me in my new purple dress. Then she worked on my hair and natural makeup. Jake knocked on my door at 7:20. I wanted to run downstairs to meet him, but Alice shook her head.

She said, "Wait, Ness. Just one more thing." She handed me the matching shoes and called for Jasper. They were going, too. Rose and Emmett were, but Bella and Edward were staying home with Carslisle and Esme. Bella had a phobia of dances.

I came down the stairs and saw Jake. He was wearing a dark tux and had his hair done. He smiled as I stepped off of the last step. Then he took my hand and we walked at his quick pace to the car.

Instead of staying inside, we danced outside, where Bella had described she and Edward danced at our age.The last dance was the best. We slowly swayed as I rested my head on his shoulder. Jake said, "You know what's weird?" I looked up at him and asked, "What?" He said, "I'm not... jealous.... of your dad anymore." I smiled and said, "Glad to hear it." He saidseriously, "I love you more than anything in this world, and we've been through a lot." I nodded and said, "Too much stuff." He asked, "Can you promise me something?" I nodded and whispered, "Anything." He had tears in his eyes when he whispered, "Don't ever leave me, okay?" I whispered in his ear, "Never. I have no place to go without you."
