The Morning's Dusk

Chapter 2

I can't believe this. Carslisle and Esme are here to pick me up from school. I walked right past their sleek new black Mercedes with the tinted windows. I just kept walking past Edward and Bella, looking at me expectantly with their Volvo. And Rose with her striking red convertible. Emmett had his jeep, of course. And Alice was showing off her bright yellow 911 Turbo Porsche. They were all looking at me to see who I would ride with. I rolled my eyes when Esme crossed her arms. I hurt her feelings by not riding with her? Not really. She just liked being there for me.. which was sweet, but kind of embarassing when I'm a junior. Jake was staring at me like I was a freak when I walked up to Chase Brexter's truck. He was cute, and had offered to take me home. I gave him a helpless look and whispered, "My friends are used to me riding with them." He smiled a mischevious smile and said, "Well, maybe they could get used to you being with me." I nodded, and got in, but not without looking for Jake. He must've gone to ride with Seth and Leah, who'd started attending Forks High so I was sure to be protected. Wh-at-ev-er. I could feel my phone vibrating like crazy in my bag, but ignored it. Probably just Alice-she couldn't see me, so the warning was SO not necessary. I said, "Yeah. So, do you think we'll ever survive Mr. Frexer's pop quizzes?" He chuckled and said, "I'm sure you would." Then he looked over at me with an evil grin, showing all his teeth....oh no. I was nervous, and looked out the window instead of looking at him or his sharp teeth anymore. I said unevenly, "W-what's that supposed to mean, Chase?" He stopped at the side of the road, which I couldn't help but notice was right next to the woods. Oh, no...

He twisted my arm and I felt nothing. He said, "You should've felt that. Any human would." I shook my head and said, "Maybe I'm just weird." He said, "I know that you know I'm a vampire. But, you're....different. You have a fast heartbeat, but you are just like a vampire in so many ways. And, you smell....well, very delicious." I let out a strangled chuckle and leaned toward the door. He frowned and said, "Leaving so soon, Nessie? But we're just getting started."

He crouched over me and was on top of me. I cried out whimpers, and kept thinking, "Edward! He's trying to kill me!" as Chase kissed my throat. Suddenly the truck was tipped over, and all of the Cullens' and the wolf packs were grabbing him viciously, tearing him off of me. I was crying, something my family could never do. Alice took me in her arms, along with Bella, Rose, and Esme. They were trying to calm me, so that we wouldn't draw any attention to ourselves.

Jake was going crazy, turning into a wolf in half a second. Leah looked at me, wanting to comfort me too, but stood in front of Seth willingly. I was grateful; Seth was a year younger than me.

Later, I was sitting in front of everyone that had been there (of course, not Chase). Carslisle asked for the millionth time today, "You're sure you aren't experiencing any pain, Renesmee?" I said, "I'm fine, Grandpa." He smiled and Esme said, "Do you need anything?" I said, "I appreciate everyone's help, but I'm fine." Jake snorted and said, "Yeah, because you could have kicked that jerk off of you. He was going to kill you, Ness! How can you not see any bad in people? Why didn't you just think something sooner?" Edward shook his head and said angrily, "You should've seen what he was going to do to you. It made me so.... you don't even know how much trouble we all could have been in if someone had heard you."

I stood and said, "Well, I'm SO sorry for not wanting to pretend my family is my circle of friends. Why does nobody get this? I need to be away from mythical creatures for a while!" Bella put her shield around me and showed me every memory she had of me. I growled in frustration and ran outside. I could still hear people talking inside, so I started back. When I came in, Emmettand Jasper bumped into me. They smiled and said, "Come on, Nessie."

When I came back, there was a different mood. Everyone was calm. That is, until Alice stared blankly into space the gasped and turned o me. She said, "I can't see you, but I can see what wants to happen to you." She froze and kept staring at me blankly. She whispered, "No....don't....Nessie, don't!" I gave her a confused look and everyone turned to look at me. She jumped up and pulled me into an icy hug. "Don't go in the woods again, Nessie. It's not safe." Then she looked at Carsisle and said, "Chace has a family of his own. They all know about Nessie...and want her." Everyone growled when she said the last two words. Even me.
