A new day. It was all I needed to make up for the "bad pack attraction" thing. Luck had it; Jacob wasn't as mad. At least that's what Seth told me over the phone six minutes ago. Maybe I should call for an update... Lost in my thoughts, I barely noticed the rain pounding on my window. Alice and Esme had been warned to steer clear of my room because Rose said I had gone nuclear. Well, she should've known better than to ask how my day had gone. Of course my natural instinct is to go off on her. Half-vampire-duh!
I sighed and put my phone in my pocket. Maybe rain would clear my head. I ran down the stairs and out the door. Where to go-La Push? Haha, no way. Jacob had "forbidden" me from going there until the bad pack was gone. Ugh. I started walking down the twisty path that leads out the driveway-then turned toward the forest. I wasn't hungry or anything-just really, really bored.
After walking around the forest like a creeper for 20 minutes, I stared up at the sky to let rain splash over my face. I had seriously screwed up. A leaf crunched behind me. Then three more. I turned and didn't see anything. I could practically hear Quil now: "Wow Ness, honestly? Hallucinating?" He would crack up. But I heard it again, from the north this time, and looked ahead. Four pretty wolves stood before me. But compared to the Quileute pack, these guys were puppies.
I smiled and backed away slowly. They didn't look dangerous, and I wouldn't dream of hunting wolves. Way too ironic. One stepped forward and cocked its head to the side. It looked back at the others and they retreated. I sighed to myself and thought, "So much for attracting wolves; they must have a contract stating that they each have to hate me at some point." I sat down beside a tree and checked my messages. Seth had called twice, and Jared once. Great. I'll bet they had a pack meeting about Jacob's anger. This seriously was not normal.
I decided not to call them back. Not an emergency-it's not like we broke up or anything. The guy from yesterday was slowly walking over to me. "I forgot to meet you yesterday." I looked up and blinked. Weird. He sank down beside me and said, "I'm Nick, by the way." I nodded and said, "Uh, hi." He laughed and said, "What's up with you and muscle-man? You know, the guy that got mad yesterday." I answered, "M-my boyfriend. He's mad. But, what's new with Jake? I should probably go find him, anyway. Before he comes to make up." I knew Jacob really well.
Nick grabbed my wrist as I got up. He shook his head and said, "No, I don't think that's gonna work for me, Nessie. I want to know what's so special about you. Oh, and if anyone comes for you, I'll snap your little neck like a twig." I tried to pull away and failed. "It won't work. I'm a vampire and my boyfriend's a werewolf. He has a pack too." Nick shook his head and laughed. "I dare him to try anything. I know everything about you, Renesmee. We'll be together for eternity. Just do me a favor." He grabbed my neck with the hand that didn't have a hot grasp on my wrist. He breathed in my ear, "Don't think about anything." I knew he didn't have a chance. I was about to go full vampire-mode when I saw the trembling shadow.
