"Rora, hey stay with me. Keep your eyes open." I lower my head into his chest letting my eyes closed with Charles calling out to me. "Aurora!"
Someone carries my body out of the ship where I start to regain consciousness of my surroundings. My heads laying against Erik's chest when he lowers me onto the ground. Foosteps rush over immediately where someone dropped on their knees into the sand. Squinting my eyes opened my vision is fuzzy and the sun seems to be beating down faster than it was earlier. The other person brushes my hair from my face clearly almost out of breath when they spoke. "Aurora, it's Charles. Can you hear me?" Blinking my eyes a few times I lifted my head up where Erik holds a hand on my shoulder steadying me. "Char - Charles." I croaked out where he chuckled releasing some tears, happy to see I'm still alive. He rests a hand to my cheek brushing his thumb over the viens still presented underneath my eyes. "I'm sorry this happened to you, darling. I'm so sorry..." He mumbled where I lay my head in the crook of his neck watching Erik rise to his feet speaking to the other mutants. Wrapping my arms around him I gripped the fabric of his suit. He wrapped an arm around my waist lifting me up eyeing the ocean in front of us.
Squinting my eyes I dropped my mouth opened seeing the guns on the America and Russian ships aiming their guns directly at us. Charles squeezes my hand intertwined with his reading their minds that we're against us, exactly like Erik said they would be. The ships fired at us where I clutched my eyes closed but Erik stopped them throwing his right hand out. He slowly turned them back around so they would kill the men who launched them, meaning he would start a war against Mutants and Humans. Squinting my eyes opened I can hear their thoughts of anger that hurts my heart. Because Shaw was right they will fear what they don't understand like always. "There are thousands of men on those ships. Good, honest, innocent men. They're just following orders." Erik turned his gaze to me knowing I'm the only one who would understand, the torture that we faced. "We've been at the mercy of men just following orders...never again." He released the rockets until Charles tackled him into the sand. The boys fight one another and Erik threw the rest of our team backwards into the sand. The rockets almost reached the men until I heard gunfire go off from the CIA agent Moria.
Erik deflected the bullets but one hit Charles in his spine where he screamed in agony collapsing into the sand. Something comes over me where I just opened my hands screaming and blasting everything around is backwards. Morira gets knocked into the ground before I throw her away from us rushing to Charles. My hair blows out of my face as I released some tears, angerly glaring at the man I used to trust with my life. Erik started to say something but I slapped him across the cheek where he holds his burning cheek. "I'm...sorry Rora." Baring my teeth at him Charles grabs my hand pulling me to focus on him instead. Erik rises to his feet resting a hand on my shoulder squeezing it softly releasing tears himself. "Their society won't accept us. We form our own. The humans have played their hand...now we play ours." He holds out a hand for Raven and she comes over hugging me. Then kissing her brother on the forehead whispering to me. "Take care of him, Aurora." Nodding my head she disappeared with Erik and the remaining of Shaw's team. The others rushed to our side where I try helping Charles to stand but he groaned in pain dropping to the sand again.
"I - uh - I can't feel my legs.." He mumbled under his breath gripping my hand intertwined with his. Hank stared at me where I questioned him no exactly hearing him clearly. "What did you say?" Charles blinked tears in his blue eyes clearly in shock himself. "I can't feel my legs...I can't feel my legs." Shifting on my knees I squeeze his hand moving my other hand to squeeze his leg as harsh I can hoping there's something. "Anything?" He shakes his head no sucking in a breath making start to cry. "Rora I - there's nothing love." Hank got to his feet rushing back to the airplane needing to get him to a hospital immediately. "Charles..." Whipping my head around I see Moira getting to her feet trying to come forward but I clutched my left hand forward choking her. "Aurora, don't!" Charles tried to talk me down but she grabs at her throat gasping for air. But I see fear in her eyes that I remember all too well, slowly dropping my hand she collapses to the ground regaining breath. The CIA brought in a helicopter flying him to the hospital where Charles was pronounced paralyzed from the waist down so he has to use a wheelchair for the rest of his life unfortunately.
Creaking opened the door to his study he glanced back to me with a weak smile. "I thought you'd have left by now given my state, Rora." Closing the door softly I stop in front of him draping my arms over his shoulders giving him a kiss on the forehead. He reaches up moving hair from my face until someone entered the room where we saw Moria. Charles let me push him chair outside where we escorted her to the car until he calls out to her distracting her. Closing my eyes I raised my fingers to my temple entering her mind to make her forget us and what happened in Cuba. She gets in the car where I felt him inside my head. "It's safer for us all...I'm only sorry I can't give you a child someday if you wanted one." Sitting down on his lap I shake my head where he wrapped his arms around me. "You don't have to apologize for anything. I don't care if we have kids right now or not. And maybe we can someday. But all that matters now is your school - our school." He rests his forehead against mine releasing a breath, knowing that I was missing Erik even though he was the cause of Charles condition. "I have a feeling we will see him again, Aurora. Until then it will be you and me facing whatever comes our way." That's how the X-Men team was created.
