The door to the bedroom opened slowly as the outline of Eddie's figure appeared before me.
'What are you doing?' He asked apprehensively, taking several steps toward me.
I didn't respond as I walked over to the box of clothes Nancy had given to me and rifled through them, hoping to find anything of use that may have served me well.
'Hey! Can you answer me?' Eddie asked, his voice raising slightly.
'I'm leaving.' I muttered, not making eye contact.
'What are you talking about? Leaving where?' He asked as he watched on.
'I don't know, Eddie. Anywhere.' I deadpanned, breathlessly.
'Stop.' He demanded, but I continued with my frantic packing.
'I said stop, okay?' He called out, rushing towards me as he grabbed the trash bag from my hand and threw several feet away from us and grabbing both of my wrists, turning me to face him.
'Look, we got mad we said some things we didn't mean. Let's just - let's just leave this for now and talk about this in the morning.' He said, his eyes pleading with me.
'Can you let go of my hands, please.' I said, my voice low as I gave him a cold stare.
He let go gently as I returned my hands to my side, making my way over to the bag once again as he stepped in front of me to block my path.
'Eddie, move!' I cried out, my jaw tightening in frustration.
'What the fuck are you going to do, Kat? You've got no money, no car, nothing! Just think about this for a moment.' He demanded.
'No! I'm done thinking. I am done sitting here in this dump doing nothing but thinking. It's all I do day in and day out!' I exclaimed, my hands flailing in annoyance as I spoke.
'I did everything I thought I was supposed to do. I did everything they asked of me. I left my home to come and find you, I almost died fighting for you. I left my friend to die and I stayed with you through it all because you needed me. I did everything!' I cried, my voice cracking as the tears began to sting my eyes.
'I know.' Eddie said softly, reaching out to hold my hand.
'No.' I said, batting his hand away.
'No more, Eddie.' I sighed as the tears began to trickle down my cheeks.'We can get through this together. Like we always do.' He urged, leaning down so his forehead was touching mine.
'We're a team, Kat.' He said, his voice breaking.'It's not enough.' I said, turning my head away from him.
He stood back to look at me, screwing his face up in confusion.
'It was enough two weeks ago. It was enough four days ago, it used to be enough!' He declared.
'Yeah, it did. I don't know where you've been the last couple of days but everything has changed!' I said, growing frustrated at the lack of progress from the conversation.
