I muttered frustratedly, propping my elbow up against the ledge of the window in the car.'What? What's wrong with my driving?' Eddie enquired, a small chuckle erupting from his lips.
Eddie had sold his van when we got to Pittsburgh. It sold for less than he would have liked, given that it was his pride and joy but by most standards it was at best, a little beat up.
He got enough for it to buy a pretty well loved, burgundy red Honda Accord that we both shared.
Partially because we realised fairly quickly that my legs didn't reach the pedals and no amount of adjustments to the seat could rectify that.
I insisted that I was fine with getting the bus. Which I had been. But Eddie was Eddie, and he wouldn't rest once he got an idea in his head.
Although, he hadn't quite adjusted to the stark differences in proportion to a sturdy van that could withhold a lot of dirt roads and speeding to a small tin can that would practically tip over with a sharp gust of wind.
'You're totally reckless, you forget to use the turn signal and you never use your mirrors it's just a mess!' I exclaimed, suppressing a laugh.
'No, sorry. But I don't agree with that statement at all.' Eddie affirmed, shaking his head.
He tapped his fingers against the steering wheel to the rhythm of the music that was playing low on the stereo.
'Disagree all you want it's a fact.' I smirked, turning my head to glance at him.
'I am a careful driver!' He proclaimed.
'Yeah, alright.' I rolled my eyes, picking up the crumpled map that was sat idly in my lap. Shaking it out a couple of times and squinting my eyes to look at it.
'You think I drove around with bags of weed and other shit in my glove compartment driving like a maniac? That's asking to get pulled over! So I stand by my previous statement. I am a good driver.' He urged.
I could see him glancing at me out of the corner of my eye as I let out a singular breathy laugh.
'You on the other hand can't read a map to save your life!' He continued, reaching his right arm across to poke his index finger against my cheek as I batted him away playfully.
'Oh, please. It's not my fault all the buildings look exactly the same.' I scoffed.
'Sure. That's it.' He sang.
We drove for several more minutes, not coming across much of anything except for tall trees that didn't seem to dissipate the further along the rural roads we travelled.
Eventually we came to a clearing, and our once rural earthy surroundings seemed to become a lot more suburban as concrete buildings and parking lots began to crop up.
'Look! There.' I said, shifting myself forward to point at a sign that we were slowly approaching.
'Ridgeview High School. One mile. I was right.' I cheered, turning to Eddie with a smug look plastered across my face.'Thank God. My ass is numb.' He groaned.
Eventually we made our way into the entrance of the High School, pulling up into the car park as Eddie began to frantically unbuckle his seatbelt.
