Nessa looks so pretty right now. I wish I could tell her that. She's staring at me with those soft, gray eyes. I have been head over heels for her since I can remember. She's always been my number one girl. By the time I got the courage to tell her, she started dating Derek.

I liked Derek in the beginning. He seemed to make her happy, and that's all I really wanted for Nessie. Then, she would tell me about the fights they'd have and ask for advice. It would take everything in me not to tell her to dump him. I was close to doing so many times, especially when her tears were caused by him.

"Let's go inside. Then, we can talk. I'm starving," Nessie says dramatically.

"Alright, alright. Let's go," I chuckle.

We make our way inside the diner. I see Nessie's eyes light up instantly. I know it's been a while since she's been here. Derek never takes her.

The waitress takes us to a booth. She puts two menus on the table and takes our drink orders. I stick with a black coffee and Nessa gets a Dr. Pepper, even though she finished a coffee not even fifteen minutes ago. There's nothing I can do about that right now. Plus, I know it's her favorite.

"Talk to me, Nessie. What's bothering you?"

"I don't know," she sighs, "Derek's just been acting a little weird lately."

"Define weird."

"Well, I barely go over to his apartment anymore. We rarely ever see each other. He blames it in his study group and being tired, but I don't really buy it. It just seems like he's been blowing me off more and more lately. I asked him out to breakfast this morning, and he said he was going back to sleep. He said he'd get lunch with me, but I don't know if I see that happening."

My fists clench with every word she says. How can this asshole not see how much he's hurting her? She's doubting his love for her. That should break his heart, but I doubt he even notices or cares.

"Nessie, have you talked to him about how you feel?"

"No, I don't want to start something or make a big deal out of nothing."

"Nessa," I say sternly, "You need to talk to him. Promise me that if he shows up for lunch you'll talk to him."

"Crow. . ."

"Promise me, Nessa," I say as I hold out my pinky.

"I promise," she says as she intertwines her pinky with mine.

That's all I can do right now. The subtle dominance. The light touches. I won't dare cross any boundaries with Nessa. She loves Derek, even though I wish she didn't.

The waitress comes back with our drinks and takes our food orders. I get blueberry waffles and Nessa gets eggs with turkey sausage. The portions are pretty big, so we usually share.

"So, what's going on in your love life," Nessa asks me abruptly.

"You mean my nonexistant one," I retort.

"Oh, c'mon. Stop being so secretive. Who is she?"

"I'm serious, Nessie. There's nobody."

"Nobody's up to your standards?"

No, Nessie. You're up to my standards, and I only have eyes for you.

"I just haven't found the right girl yet," I lie.

I have found the right girl. She's just in love with a douche.

"I'm sure you'll find one soon. You're a great guy, Crow. Any girl would be lucky to have you."

I hold onto those words so tight. I just wish she'd see me as more than a friend. I want to be her best friend, boyfriend, Daddy, dom, and lover all wrapped into one. I don't think she'd ever allow that though. She'd be too afraid of ruining the friendship.

"Crow, Crow! Earth to Crow," Nessie says, snapping her fingers.

"I'm sorry. I zoned out for a moment there."

"It's okay. I was just worried because our food got here and you didn't immediately dig in," she giggles.

I chuckle.

"I'm fine, Nessie. Just got distracted."

"I understand. I do that too, sometimes."

I know she does. It happens all the time. Her gray, doey eyes get dilated, she sways from side to side, sometimes she hums a little song she just made it. It's adorable. I always wonder what goes on in that little head of hers. She's probably living in her own fantasy land in there. Singing to all the animals and being the fairest princess in the land.

"Can you cut up my half if the waffle into little squares like you used to? They taste better that way. Please," Nessie begs.

"Okay, okay. I'll do it," I chuckle at her childish behavior.

I love when she's like this around me. It lets me know that she's comfortable. Plus, it gives me a chance to act as her Daddy, even if it's just for a short moment. I know Derek doesn't even try. Nessa spilled a lot of things to me at her 18th birthday party.

Her friends brought alcohol, and she somehow got her hands on some. Derek was too busy talking to some other girl the whole night. She came over to me and shared secrets with me. She told me she's a little, but I already knew. She also told me some details about her and Derek's sex life, or lack there of. There are some things I wish I never heard.

"Thank you," I hear Nessie say.

I look down at her plate and I realized I had cut up her half if the waffle without even thinking about it. I really need to stop doing that. I get so lost in thinking about Nessie. I'm surprised she hasn't caught on.

"You're welcome. Eat up, we've got classes to get to soon."

Nessie nods her head and starts eating. She does a happy dance in her seat. She's always done that since we were kids. That's how you know the food is good. I find it adorable that she still does it now.

"I told you the waffles are better when you cut them," she giggles.

"I believe you, Nessie. The dance says it all."

A blush paints her face as she looks back down at her plate. My god, how could Derek not fall madly in love with her? How could he not love this side of her? I will never understand. He'll realize what he's missing soon enough.
